Best attachment for smoothing soil

I vote for the top dresser mix and pull an old bedspring behind it, I have an old scraper box that I strap an old bedspring to and it does a wonderful job on both lawns and fine gravel. We also use an old weighted bedspring to pull behind the ATV to dress the trails, they look like you hand raked them after a few passes.

Don't really have holes to fill in, just typical field type conditions and depressions from the gulley washer rains we had this spring. I've already smoothed, seeded and covered with straw this past fall (got no rain), did it again in one area this spring (got the gulley washer rains), but have some grass/crabgrass in those areas now. Concerned I put all that work into it again and get the washout rains.

So I know rolling want help, much to hard and rocky for that. Guess I will just use the box blade again and start from scratch. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

(oh and my post should have said, BX2660)

I have found that for finished lawns it is better to use sprinklers to germinate the seedlings rather than rain. Reason being you can control the amount and timing, keep the seeds damp without run off. I water new seeds about 4 times a day for short intervals until I get a good stand. I want the new lawn areas to have a chance to develop some roots before heavy rains wash them away.

Later when the grass has rooted well your watering needs will be dependent on your local conditions.

That can work too but I find the landplane/grader with shims provide a very uniform top dressing and is for the most part what these implements are made for.

ONE thing I know golf course maintainers do is to USE the collected cores from core aerating.
I would imagine you could gather up enough to rake around and fill in the lows - the arithmetic for this should be simple once you have the aerator specs.

I'm thinking a core aerator and Landscape ("York") rake should do the trick, no fill to buy and truck in and the aeration is good too.
