Snow Equipment Buying/Pricing Best Chains for 12.4 24 Agri Tires

Hi all, I have a 2006 Branson 2910i that has 12.4 24 Agri Tires on the rear...what are the best chains to get (and where) for these tires...I have to move alot of snow (sometimes on ice) up and down hill for several hours at a time after a big snow here in the mountains of New Mexico...your help is appreciated! Gravel, pavement or both? And do you care if the pavement gets chain marks? I assume you plow with a blade or a FEL or do you snowblow?

You wil need chain tensioners to keep them taunt as well

The folks at www.tirechains.com in Pennsylvania have eight different styles of snow chains for your tire size. and the installation tool and the tensioners

The folks at www.chainsrus.com do not list your tire size but I would call them as they are much closer to you and should be able to obtain/assemble the right chains for you.

I have a set of Tellefsdal "super" chains. Very good but heavy chain.

The importer is in New Hampshire and the salesman makes free deliveries to the local dealers. Aquiline makes a similar model called the Talon that's easier to buy in the US. They're are not cheap and they are not friendly to pavement but they are as close to a skidder chain as you can get and since they have two chains that wrap around the tread they can't fall in between lugs.

If you can properly install tire chains, tensioners are not needed. Tire chain tensioners in ALMOST every instance are a money-maker for folks selling chains and a crutch for those that don't know how to use them.

Don't get straight "ladder chains" on ag tires(R1's)!

Get the chains that have links binding the two cross links togther and if you have icy conditions, get the same pattern with the welded lugs on them. The problem with ladder chains is that slip between the lugs and are useless. Don't forget to use chain tighteners also.

I have the same chains, and they are indeed an excellent piece of gear. Money well spent IMO.

I'd never seen tensioners used until I came here (to TBN). A properly fitted set of chains will never come off the tires, and they are much more effective when run loose, which allows the chain to conform to the terrain it's trying to grip.

Should I worry about putting them on the front tires (I have to use 4WD here due to the terrain...no flat roads/drives in sight) if I get the ones with the aggressive nubs on the back?

I will only be on dirt roads/drives and usually have to clear the access road to our village here in NM which is 7/10 of a mile and 5-7 drives that have greater than a 10 degree grade. I have a front loader and a 7 ft road blade set up on the tractor.
