Best choice for 4x4 mower

I have a 2520 with FEL, LX4, rear blade, and a rake. I considered a MM mower and Rear Finish mower. But, I have decided that it will be too much hassle to swap the MMM and I don't want to remove the FEL. With the RFM, it leaves the tractor very long and bulky to mow slopes as steep as 30-40 degrees with trees. I can clear the area carefully with the LX4, but I will need a finish mower to keep up so I can spread seed.

To mow these slopes, I know that I will need 4 wheel drive. So, I am thinking about another dedicated mower, perhaps a 2305 or X748. With this, since I already have the 2520, I will not need any other accessory except for mowing.

I presently mow with a Toro 520H garden tractor. I have had it for about 12 years and have wished for something better for the last 10. It is 2 wheel drive and some slopes are impossible with it. It has been certainly better than the Craftsman 12.5hp however that the land gobbled up...

So, I am looking for a 4x4 mower with the best stability. What would be best; 2305, X740, other JD, other color?

I'd check out MF Kubota Simplicity
& CC also.
JD isn't always the right choice every time.

Kubota has a GR2000 (gas) and a GR2100 (diesel) which are all wheel drive.

I'm looking at The Gr2100 and a BX1500.

Seriously, though, I mow similar terrain with my Case DX25E and it does a good job of hanging on to the hills. It is roughly the same size as the Kubota BX2350 or the JD 2305, so I would assume either of those would do equally as well. I would recommend going with either R1 or R4 tires, as the turfs seemed pretty slick even with 4WD. (That is, if your turf is not to soft there) Everything here is all rocks, so even with Ag tires, I only have one place in my yard where I have tore things up a bit, and that is coming up the hill right next to the house where I have to make a sharp turn.

1* have a 60'' mmm on my BX23 and I can mow with the FEL on the tractor.
2*I'm not so sure I'd have gotten the MMM for the BX23 had I know that I was going to buy a CC GT2554 with a 54in mower deck on it later. But then on the other hand its nice to have 2 mowers so me and the wife can both mow at the same time.
3* Don't blame you. I like being able to use the BX23 with the FEL and MMM both on it. It's also nice to have the CC with an extra 54'' mower on it.
4*My CC GT2554 works great as an auxiliary mower even though It's only 2 wheel drive.
All I have on it to help with traction is 8.5 wide ag tires. No Chains or extra weight of any kind. Can't help but wonder how it would perform mowing your property if one was to install chains and weights on it.
If that would work for you it would be your least expensive solution. A CC GT2554 list for about $4200.
You can't touch A 2305 or X740 for twice that money for just the tractor without any mower.
In my book 6000 dollars is to much money for any lawn mower.
5*I just got back from the JD Dealer where I priced these 2 tractors.
The X748 was $8300 & the 2305 was $9000.
Neither of these prices included a mower.
As I stated above $6000 is 2 much to pay for any lawn mower; so for me that clearly rules out the X748 garden tractor therefore my focus would be on the 2305 because it's an upgrade from the X748 garden tractor to the next higher class of a Sub Compact for practically the same money.

Here is Why!
Example I'm looking into 2 Kubota BX1500 tractors. One is a new one with a 48'' mower for $7495.
The other one is used with 350 hours and a 48" mower for $6000.
Another one I want to check out is the Kubota BX1800 series.
All of these Kubota Sub Compacts come standard with 4WD rear PTO and A 3 point hitch.
Power steering and the ROPS are standard on them also.
I believe one of these would be the perfect solution to your problem at far less cost than any suggestions offered thus far.
Also these prices beat the pants off of any prices I've seen to date on any JD Simplicity or MF equipped the same way.

Did you consider a self-propelled commercial walk-behind with one of those attachments that lets you ride it? A used one can be had for under $2k usually and you can get widths over 54"

Don't feel lonesome about not knowing what a Steiner is. I sent a friend to a private auction with a wad of cash to buy me a tractor. He came back with a Steiner 525. I had never even heard of one but I did recognize the Kubota diesel engine that powered it. With the extra attachments available for it, (over twenty), it is a great lawnmower that will do a lot more than just cut grass.

Well, I stopped by a dealer who had an X728 to look at. Looks nice. But the wife says it looks too big for her ! I told the dealer I did not want to mess with swapping out a MMM and front loader on the 2520. He responds that it only takes a couple minutes to do the FEL. So, those who do this, how long does it really take you to install/take off the 62D MMM and take off/install the 200CX FEL? If it really isn't a lot of trouble, I may re-consider a MMM. I don't have the backhoe, and I'm not sure if I'll get one...

Of all the tractors suggested thus far the best solution at the best price appears to be the CC GT2554 or a Kubota BX 1500.
If I were in your shoes mowing your property I would be trying them out there than make my decision from there.

Hiya,

I have a sloped lot also. I gave up on tractor MMM's and lawn tractors years ago and switched to commercial lawn equipment. Size for size, nothing is as fast as a dedicated landscaper mower at cutting grass.

My current mower is a Wright Stander. I picked it up used this spring for $3500. It had about 300 hours. It zips along at about 10MPH cutting better than any tractor mount mower I have ever used and at about 700 Lbs, it's a lot easier on the turf than a 2500 Lb tractor with chains.
