3000 hours especially on a gas motor is a bunch. Even for a diesel mower the rest of the machine is getting pretty tired. I’ve seen machines like that for $1,000. $4,000 is way too much.

Got it ... will keep looking around!

My choice for front deck mower is Walker.

Walker Mowers

Thanks for that recommendation.. there is a dealer not far from me so I’ll probably check them out as Grasshopper is top of my list now. Did not see anything on the Walker site promoting the front deck raising electrically. Does it require a Jack or is it powered?

The walkers are expensive and their claim to fame is high end grass cutting. If you’re only wanting to cut grass the Grasshopper is way better.

Found a new 54" front deck grasshopper for $7800 but it was a couple hours away and I was concerned about continued service/parts. Don't know why but they don't do "sales" much just service. A friend has a smaller (42 or 48 ?) Walker and loves it for the cut and bagging, but doesn't think it'd work well on rough terrain. Not sure why, the front deck floats laterally as well as front to rear. I'm thinking about a used 2014 61" BadBoy Outlaw Extreme 852 FX Kawasaki with 149hrs for about 5K. Used scares me but.... Any BadBoy users here for advice?

The only reason I could think of to buy a Walker is that you have the perfect little lawn and you want to bag continuously. Known for a nice cut and great bagger along wth being very compact but smaller wheels do not navigate rougher areas well. I usaed to work at a company whose landscaper had a Walker for the really nice grass right by the door and around the front beds and then Grasshoppers for the rest. I asked him why and he said when it needs to be perfect the Walker is the best but they take a lot of maintenance to keep it like that whereas he just sharpened the blades daily on his Hoppers and mowed lots of acres.

Had a friend who bought a Bad Boy and really loved it for the first couple of years and then it started needing lots of little things to the point he sold it and got a Grasshopper which he thought he thought he got around the high price by buying the Bad Boy in the first place. Bad Boys have a alot of sales push and little gimmicks to get them bought but not a bad mower if you can maintain it.

Walker does a lot more that groom high end lawns these days. Watch this video all the way through and check out the awesome features on a 37 hp. out front read discharge mower. The title of the thread is BEST commercial zero turn. I think Walker is right up there with the best. You will pay a premium for them.

The Walker has the best bagging system in the industry. If all you want to do is cut grass the Grasshopper is way better.

Maintenance on a Walker mower is not bad at all. Replace a plastic shoot or blower unit if you are in a sandy area is about it. And not often.

No belts on the deck. Blades are timed and overlap to provide even cut with nothing left in the center as blade wears. If you don't want to bag, open the back door and it will blow the grass out the back and spread it nicely. Of course they do offer side discharge if you choose to go that route.

Not saying other brands are not good mowers. But for me, Walker is the best!

If you want to cut all day, without having to stop and fill the tank several times. Buy a diesel.
I'm very impressed with how much I can cut/ mow without having to stop and fill up my kubota diesel Z turn mower
