Best Deere for my 2 acre lot and 150' driveway?

So the 400 series is rough equilivlant to the X500 series then? Is there some sort of cross reference I can check since I have found a few used GX3xx ones too? The Deere site doesn't seem to have one although I guess that makes sense.

Buying a new, bigger house and juggling all this is keeping me conservative for now. So even with full wife support, I am trying to keep my spend on this in the $4000 range for the tractor (I can worry about snow removal goodies later once the dust from buying the house settles.).

Actually, an older 400 series is more the equivalent of the X700 series. I would love to have a 455 AWS with the biggest deck available for it; but those units are rare in Colorado. You east coast and midwest guys have it made when it comes to finding used ones for sale.

Greetings all,
I went looking at JD lawn tractors yesterday for my new house with a 2 acre lot and a 150' driveway. I want something to cut the grass spring/summer/fall and something that can take a blower attachment to cclear snow in the winter.

X320 for sure. Best bang for your buck, and its very well built. With routine maintenance, it will last forever, and still be worth $ if you decide to upgrade in the future.

ajd- I am pretty near rochester, have you considered other brands instead of JD ? I went to the my local JD on rt 104 and rt 31 and they are no help either. I never stopped in henrietta on rt15. One on rt 31 is much better help though- you proabably will have better luck with them. I went to my local kubota dealer and got better help from them instead. I got a much bigger tractor then I thought I would get, but I dont regret a minute of it. I love the diesel more then gas and its so much easier and plenty of power for the snows we get here.

Yeah I know the one on 31 you are talking about, JD Blazey right? That's right near where I'm moving. I went there because he's the one with the JD 425 but it was pretty beat up looking.

I went there tonight but it was after they closed. It looked like has big Kubotas and in the show room I spotted a few Cub Cadets.

From the quick pricing I did it looks like Kubota, Cub Cadet, and JD are all in the same price range for teh same types of models.

My money went to the dealer who can take the time to talk to me and give me the answers I want.

I hope you find what you are looking for. don't forget to include new holland in your search. theres a local dealer in fairport.

I work right near there, and did check them out. They seem to be more focused on the bigger equipment though.

I'm going to try Lakeland in Macedon since it's the closest one. Hopefully they are better than the ones in Avon.

Let us know how you like it.

Yesterday was my first mowing of the season using my L-130. Since I use it to cut native vegetation (e.g. grasses, soft weeds, fresh tumbleweeds) because of its maneuverability over my 4200 with rotary cutter; I had ample time cutting around my 30 trees, and various other small obstacles in the yard to think about how I would like an X7xx AWS diesel. Overkill for just under 2-acres? You bet; but it would be nice for the maneuverability, fuel economy, power steering, power deck lift, larger deck, hopefully more comfortable seat, side-by-side HST pedals like my 4200, shaft drive transmission, liquid cooling.

Since I would only use an 'X' series for mowing, I wonder if spending the extra bucks on a rear PTO and 3PH is worth it as Deere wants a pretty penny for those options.

Now only if the 'X' series had a drive-on deck like some of their CUT's do; along with some durable non-stick magic unobtanium for the deck.

Can't help with the rare material.......... Oops, I forgot that the 7 Iron deck isn't available with the AWS
