robbyr, you have my heartfelt condolences. I lost my boy Mickey in April of 2012 and my little girl Minnie in January of 2016. He was almost 12 and she was almost 14.

Sorry to read of your loss but from the pictures you gave your dog a GREAT LIFE. For that you should be proud! My dogs have always been my best friends and I treasure every minute with them. Always rescues and always great dogs.

He was eleven years old and extremely active. Didn稚 see this coming for several more years. Last weekend I noticed he wasn稚 feeling well so took him to vet Monday. Had pneumonia and a tumor behind his right front leg that I somehow missed but I know it was fairly recent. Vet gave him some shots and me some antibiotics to give twice a day. Game plan was try to get him over the pneumonia then worry with the tumor. Thursday evening I petted him then went out a few minutes. Came back in and wife and son were with him. He stopped breathing. Ran him up to vet but was already gone. I work in a shop for my parents company and he went with me every day. Miss him. Before him I had a female blue heeler that also went with me every day and died at eleven years old in a tractor accident. Still have two boxers and a huge mix breed. Had Dobermans for ten years til I ran out of them. Time will tell if I get another blue heeler. Thanks for the comments as they do provide a measure of solace.
Sorry for your loss. Keep a close eye on those boxers for lumps and bumps. We currently have two. I have had about ten in my life then a lull of about 15 years. Of all the breeds, boxers are my favorite.

We are were down to five dogs after saying goodbye to three in the last year or so including an 18 year old min pin. Then about 3 or 4 weeks ago I agreed to foster a "leggy" fox hound or whatever he is until I can find someone with more energy than I have. Loosing a best friend is never easy but there is no shortage of potential best friends looking for someone to love.

I know how all of you feel. My Tess went to dog heaven a couple of years ago. Every year since at the holidays, I put some Christmas decorations on her grave. Last year it was a wreath, this year a small Christmas tree with a few decorations.

I cry like a baby every time I do it.

Miss that dog.

I’m so so sorry for your loss. It will be a year on New Year’s Day since I lost my “once in a life time” dog, Gunner. He got distemper when he was a year old and I spent 5 - 6 months getting him out of the woods. He even had to be in a wheelchair for a while. In return, he helped me get through my divorce and stayed by my side as I struggled to fix fences and maintain equipment that I never had to do before. He passed away one month before my divorce was final. We were almost inseparable for 5 wonderful years. I still cry like a baby when I think about it! I got a new GSD puppy a week ago... I’m hoping it will help dull the pain of my first Christmas not having my son and the anniversary of Gunner’s death. I definitely feel for you dude!

Very sorry to learn of the loss of your friend. Others can come forward, but they cannot be replaced ....

Piaffe, just curious if your picture is with Gunner or one of your other dogs?

My wife and I still ache over losing our dogs. First was our Golden Retriever Kasie, which was my wife's dog when we met. Actually I spelled her name Casey for several years before we learned she spelled the dog's name one way and me the other. We lost another female Golden (Ellie) a few years back, which was sad and tragic. But, we have a 2+ year old male Golden now. He is a .... PISTOL!

Yes both pictures (including the profile pic) is my Gunner. He wasn’t a very good resemblance of a GSD anymore because of the lasting side effects of his Distemper but he was the most loyal dog that ever existed. ❤️

sorry for your loss,

We have lost a number of dogs over the years (mostly old age, one with pancreas problem), never easy. Current border collie cross is 6 yr old or so, thinking about getting another dog in next year or 2.

Dad lost his last dog a few years ago, he said he won't get another, he cannot go through that again.
