Proactivity is the best defense of a gun ban.

Ie... millions of people owning guns telling the gov't that a gun ban is a real bad idea is better than trying to reach yor gun first, befor ethe gov't does..

I'm saying a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Sounds corny, but each man has his limits.

Apparently I was when I was drinking but I'd have to take other peoples' word for it.

But in reality, it depends on the law. See above for each person having their limits.

Like the speed limit? 5 over on a nice day? Its illegal, but I'm a scoundrel. :D

I'm saying this is my opinion:

A total gun ban will most likely never get passed.
A handgun ban nationwide will most likely never get passed.
If one does, most people will not turn in their guns anyway.
If the government attempts to go house to house (which it never will, but let's discuss it anyway) to search for guns, lots of folks will get shot on both sides. I just don't think most Americans would give up their guns regardless of any law.

How great a gun ban would be for the crooks. They, by definition do not abide by the law, and would be free to break into the home of any law-abiding citizen and not get shot. Certainly the majority of folks here in the USA are smart enough to know this which is why a gun ban is nothing we have to worry about. The only places there have been gun bans is in countries with dictatorships, or much more limited average intelligence caused by limited gene pools and years of inbreeding. Here in the great "meltingpot" that is the USA, we have nothing to fear but fear itself.

I think if it comes to government busting down doors for our guns, society as we know it will be over and chaos and anarchy will rule for quite a while to follow.

I also think the people we elect know this and will not go that far. Not getting in to politics, but looking at things in a rural VS city kind of way....

did anyone take the time to open up any of the maps on election day that showed how people voted? It was interesting to note that a state would show red or blue for the two parties involved. If you opened the states, it would show the counties in each state as red or blue. Many of the big electoral vote states had a majority of red counties, but the state was won by the blue candidate because the population centers are cities. To me, at least, it showed a huge difference between rural VS city voting. And this time, the city voters won.

I suppose you could think (as I like to think) that the majority of Americans would not like to see more stringent gun control. But, the reality of it is most Americans live in or near cities. And that is where the majority of gun violence is. And those city folks are probably sick and tires of gun violence. So... all it would take is someone to convince them that gun control is the answer.

You want to put a few smiley faces in when you say something so silly.

Hasn't happened like that yet enmasse in CCW states. And if a mugger wants my gun.. I may get stabbed.. but he'l get the gun.. bullets first.

I'll take a knife wound to a gunshot wound -any- day.

Just remember that is not only Big Strong guys like yourself that could drop the groceries he is carrying and grab his gun and shoot the offender before getting shot or stabbed in the heart .

There will also be little meek guys , frail , elderly and also women with their gun in their handbag . A handbag a 12 year old hood has no trouble snatching , OH OH now we've got a 12 year old hood with a gun . Guns stored in cars , uncountable cars get stolen every year , i wonder how many guns end up on the street like that ? All these people would have as much right as you to carry a gun , and what an easy source for the crooks .

I have no problem with people keeping a weapon for home defense , but carrying one to the supermarket or the hair salon does not sit well with me .

With your way of thinking it would be OK for Uni students etc to bring one to school with them .

I figure it will be harder to take away once you have it.
Harder maybe, not impossible. It can be made near impossible to renew.

Saying nothing about the political/economic situation, I am wondering about which type of rifle to look for to use as a "home/property defense weapon"?

Hey Dennis,
Picked up this fiesty lady today, Mossberg 500A Persuader.

I prefer one of my Glocks, but something like this would be good for an in-home offense/defensive weapon. I still prefer one of my Glocks. Especially if it's only you and your wife in the home. If you hear someone creeping and feel your wife in bed next to you, you can assess that it's probably a bad guy. Of course, everyone's situation on here is a little different. Usually, family doesn't break windows or boot in doors at o'dark hundred. You be the judge of that TBN moral dilemma!

I still feel that a well-oiled AR type machine in your hands (prior military exp.) would be what you would feel really comfortable with for outside the home perimeter protection, but that's contrary to a lot of the moral majority on TBN. It's only my opinion, militarily speaking.

Here she is:

I think that is exactly the point. A gun makes an 80 year old women the equal of a 20 year old thief. Why would you try to mug a lady if there was a good chance she was going to pull a gun and put you down.

I believe your logic to be flawed. We are talking about people who have been screened and had at least minimal training to carry a weapon. And if you look at the numbers, where more guns are carried all types of violent crime decrease, in this case I don't think the numbers lie.

Also, you make it sounds like thieves and thugs have a hard time getting weapons now. I believe the black market provides for those who want to get their hands on them. It is a totally different element than those who are trying to get guns legitimately. But when you start to put doubt into the mind of the criminals about whether or not they will end up on the wrong end of the gun, they will be less likely to continue that lifestyle.

It is so simple and makes so much sense to me, and the number bear it out.
