Best Land Plane?

Why would you want the top link to float with your LPGS? To start with, that eliminates using the draft control and secondly, raise the front blade just a bit higher than the rear blade. You need to try different techniques to find what method works best for your set of circumstances.

People think that it is a drop and pull type of implement, and while that does work, there are several different adjustments that can be made to get different results for different sets of circumstances.

Good luck (y)

I'm more surprised the OP received something from EA and didn't lose his money. :geek:

I have used my LP on our DG and recycled conc road. The attachment works much the same as a box scraper in terms of cutting and filling as the angle is changed using the top link. Shorten the link to cut and lengthen the link to fill. A hydraulic top link is needed and the operator is almost constantly making fine adjustments to regulate the amount of cut and fill for the desired results. That's why they call it tractor operating not a tractor ride :D

I have for lack of a better description spillways or water drain catchment areas in the steep portion of the driveway to get the water off before it build up enough to erode the road. The land plane does as designed and removes those drain catchment areas trying to create a flat plane. I want to keep those drain features with a float like feature but I can tighten things up using the Hydraulic top link I got from Brian at Fit Right hydraulics when needed. As far as draft control that is just one of the reasons I asked for ideas. Many mower decks seem to have float links that work well for those applications. It is just difficult for me to envision making it work for a land plane.

As a side note I tried to use the top link alone but it did not work by itself at all. I had to make two adjustments and stop to have enough time to do them both correctly if that is truly possible to do it "correctly". I had to first lift the three point up then retract the top link only to have to stop and undo what I just did to be able to continue on. Even so I had to spend quite a bit of time with the scrapper blade (road grader) to fix the drainage that I screwed up. In the future I may just lift it and skip those areas entirely and just come back and work them with only the road grader blade to try to save time, frustration and work.

It's true there is no one attachment that works for all grading situations. Which is why we all need a collection of attachments ;)

All of these get used on the road. It all depends on what needs to be done.

I agree I do however have one I never seem to use my 5' box blade I got at the time I bought my Montana 2840.

Sometimes our road gets hard and has a lot of washboard created by fast drivers. When that happens I ask the neighbor to drop a load of water on the road and I add water to my weight barrel to cut better.

That seems like a very simple solution, I have some plastic drums and water so I may try that if needed. I don't have hardly anyone but me the wife and deliveries use my driveway. Occasionally an explorer that quickly leaves once they realize the driveway has a homeowner at the top. I have it posted at the bottom and middle but those ATV and UTV drivers seem not to care about a silly sign.
