When going to Mt. Rushmore, twelve miles away is Crazy Horse monument. It is privately funded and not near complete but something you should not miss. A lot more to see and learn. Needles drive up through the Black Hills and see the Badlands. Spend some time in the town of keystone, you can take a train ride from there too! Out of Yellowstone, drive Chief Joseph scenic byway and Beartooth pass up to Red Lodge, great ride and views. In Yellowstone, Buffalo Bills museum and his hotel Irmas.

I agree the drive from Red Lodge to Yellowstone and Beartooth pass is the most strikingly scenic drive I have ever taken, either direction. Have done it both ways and wow.

agree 100%. I wasnt sure if id like Mt Rushmore..but man it takes your breath away. Crazy Horse was also a must see.

The loop thru the Custer State park was worth the entire trip.

Were going back to the black hills again. what an amazing trip.

Did you get the park passport? I think they will stamp it every time you go to a national park. There are a few people who have been to everyone.

Political garbage. Shutter the national parks so the masses can't enjoy them, but keep the golf course at Andrews Air Force Base open for the duration.

When I was a stupid teenager, my friends and I decided to take a trip down to Yosemite (two hour drive) and do some clowning around. What I didn't know was that trip would change my life and the way I thought about nature. I had been on dozens of camping trips with the parents but I was not prepared for the sheer majesty of those mountains and waterfalls. To me, it is the greatest place on Earth. Eventually, I would make my way up to Half Dome and dangle my feet over the edge. That memory remains with me always. I think about that moment often and that was forty years ago.
