I have an AR that I need to change oil on for the first time. What is the best oil for an older tractor like this?

When it comes to antique iron.. keep in mind that -any- oil you can buy right now.. will be superior to what that thing probably ran on new.. and that includes brigs and stratton 30w non-det, and 'jiffy-store' 84 cents a quart type stuff.

On my B I changed the oil about 3 times the first week I had it to get it completely flushed out. i used supertech oil from wallmart.

I dont know if this applies to you, but in my old '52 dodge M43 I use a non-detergent oil.

anything that is real old you "may" want to keep using a non-detergent. If you do not there is a possibility that the newer detergent type oils will loosen up some sludge that may become a problem.

just something to think about.

While that's true.. that a swap from ND to D oil may cause sludge movement, you can take steps to 'help' the process along. Like go with a 50/50 mix of d/nd oil for an oil change.. use a lower hour interval.. use an intermediate filter change. or even do successive oil changes say 10 hours apart.. or a couple weeks apart.. with a filter change inbetween.
