I get my from a local small town steel dealer. They get it in 20' lengths and cut it in half for no extra $$. They're cheaper than the box stores.

Caver has the right idea. As for the left over pieces, set them aside for the next project. It will come around soon enough.

I'll have them cut two 7'9" lengths from the 20' sticks and then use two of the remaining 4'6" sections in overlap to use up the ends. If I have them cut them into two 10' sections I am back to the 2'3" lengths which are too small to fuss with. Particularly with 150 of them. I did my original math wrong.

I happened to be driving past a concrete place today during work and stopped in real quick to get a quote while grabbing lunch across the street. I was in a hurry so I did not talk much to the guy at the counter. Shocked to realize he quoted $0.25 per foot plus $0.25 per cut. That is more than Home Depot. Curious what people are paying per foot for #3 on 20' lengths. They were quite busy so maybe I need to find a place more off the beaten path.

I'll let you know tomorrow. I need to pick up two 20' joints at the local steel store. Why don't you invest in a cheap HF angle grinder and not have to worry about being charged for each cut?

Thanks. I have a long handle bolt cutter that works well on #3, maybe I could cut them in the parking lot. I am trying to haul them in my pickup.

Around here the masonry supply places (brick and block yards) sell rebar. It's been a long time since I've bought any, so I can't compare costs.

None of our Ready-Mix suppliers locally carry any rebar or similar materials.

Good luck with your project and take care.

I hauled mine in 20' lengths on a half ton PU. Draped them over top of the cab, tied to front/rear bumper. I did wrap the portion on the cab top. Of course the pu itself was my utility beater soo...

I just bought two 20 ft joints of 3/8 inch rebar for $6.40, or $3.20 per joint, from a local steel building supplier. They cut them in half to load in the back of my pickup at no charge.
