The best? I haven't tried them all but the best I have had was HoneyBaked.

Same here. The resulting meaty hambone makes for some wonderful pinto beans & cornbread.

Costco has good ones.

Of the ones I've had, Honeybaked was the best. But I agree with RickB, I've never had one that wasnn't dry. I get one for Christmas from my tooling vendor every year. My wife loves it. I think it's just okay, but would prefer if it were uncut.

Appreciate all the replies...would love to try the Costco hams but the closest one to us is a 70 mile trip one way. Darn.

The only time I have had a dry HoneyBaked ham was when I bought one, gave it to my cousin to cook for the family and she put the ham in the oven before leaving the house...

:shocked::confused3::eek:

She does like to cook via the smoke alarm method... :rolleyes: I should have known better. :(

Smithfield hams are pretty good though and likely better from a cost/performance basis. :licking:

After warming the ham, yes WARMING the ham dear cousin is all we have to do, :rolleyes::laughing::laughing::laughing:, and eating said ham, we wrap it in foil and keep it in the fridge. Never had one dry out.

Later,
Dan

Yep. You don't have to cook the ham. It's already cooked. Just get it hot or warm whichever.

Ours is 80 miles. Go when we need dog food, usually 3-5 40lb bags just a few times a year and then spend too much on other things :(

LOL, the only dry spiral ham I've had was the Honeybaked this past TDay. Also prepared by my SIL, not me.
But to be honest, I've had dry regular, non spiral hams in the past as well. My guess the cook has more influence on outcome.

Is it a convenience thing? I mean, how hard is it to carve a ham of the bone?

Pretty hard after you've been drinking all morning.... ;)

Yes, its a convenience thing. It's completely cut in uniform slices all the way through. You just make one cut down through the whole thing and that's that. All the slices are now individual and lift off with a fork. :thumbsup:

My mother in law used to cook Honey Baked spiral cut hams for our holidays here. It was always dry. Then my wife and daughters took over, it was always great. I think it is strictly in how it is prepared. Perfect for the meal but more importantly many ham sandwiches thereafter.
