Best way to clean rust from my fuel tank

Actually what works quite well is to use molasses mixed 8 -10 to one with water. Just submerge and leave it sit for about 2 weeks. With a fuel tank you probably should drain and re submerge a few times just to circulate the mix through the tank. I used this on some rusty tractor sheet metal that I had and I was very impressed. Apparently it works by chelation.

I had an issue with a tank an old CJ5 and I bought a product from Napa Auto Parts to seal it. First, I flushed it out several times with water. You just keep washing it until it comes out clean. Then you let it dry. Then you pour in their solution and slosh it all around so the entire inside of the tank is coated. Let it dry and install it again. Solved my issue for a fair price.

In the past I have drained the fuel tank and let it sit dry. Then used a shop vac and suck out anything left in the tank. It worked quite well.

Yup, what I did was let it dry, used a long fine steel tip on my air compressor to blow air in, and wedge in the tip of the vacuum cleaner. Use a rag to seal up the opening as much as possible. Rinse and repeat with gas. Cleaned up the tank nicely.

At first I thought you were having trouble due to drinking Jack Daniels instead of something good like Crown royal Northern Harvest .

I never did this myself, but I heard coke (the drink) will eat rust pretty good.

I recently got a gas generator with a fuel tank so rusty it clogged the 1/4in pet cock in the bottom of the tank even after a drain and shake with a chain in it.

I ended up using electrolysis. Basicly pool PH, a battery charger and a piece of steel. The amount of goop that came out was amazing and I didn't have any real bad chemicals to get rid of.

Google it. Basicly All the rust attacks the steel rod you stick in the tank. Worked real well, and next to no labor. You really don't even need to remove the tank.
