Best way to kill algae in fish pond?

I've seen a windmill driven aerator which the owner said worked well. Then you have two focus points... the pond and the windmill.

Pumped in air is a well known control for algae.
What U want is high volume and low pressure, actually something similar to what a vacuum cleaner will provide.
Actually not all that difficult to jury rig a system to do that.
Many DIY possibilities, think squirrel cage fans and the like.

Pond is possibly .5 acre or so. Has brim and other fish in it.

It is covered with green algae. Pond is getting low due to drought.

Any good way to kill the algae and not the fish?

I've seen & heard that a few straw bales help.
In my pond I treated it before the water got too warm with a blue dye. "Aquashade" or TSC's version always worked for me. It filters the sunlight from getting in the water, but then I was dealing with stuff growing from the bottom. I also ran a pump (fountain) that brought up colder water to the top "stirring" things up. Once you have the pond covered with algae I think you have to resort to chemicals. I'd have a little algae sometimes, but with this method (and the Koi fish) it never was a problem, and it was our swimming pond.

a food grade diatomaceous earth filter will make the water crystal clear. you'd have to clean it a few times at first use though..

The issue is that the pond is way back in the woods. No electricity. Here is a pic.

Firefighter - I know that aeration will reduce algae growth. However - that is a long pond. It would probably take more than one aerator to resolve your situation. My neighbor is a big rancher and has two solar powered, 12 volt, shallow well pumps - used in two very remote locations. They pump water up into two watering troughs for his cattle. They could just as easily blow the water up in the air - water fountain.

You could start with one land based, solar pump that shot its water back out into the pond.. See what the results are.........

Wondered when that would come up. Nice idea, but not inexpensive. And from the OP's recent picture, I'm not sure the wind run would be available.

What I did find is that my goldfish love algae. I have a preformed poly tank (about 100 gallons) and I can watch them nibbling it around the edges. Once I noticed that, I kind of gave up on fighting algae so much since it seems to be free food. I feed from a can now just a couple of times a week.
