Best way to start burn pile

Well I found the easiest way yet today, just drop brush on the pile a day or two after a previous burn! Must of had a few hot coals left from Saturday that started the new pile up. Wasn't expecting to baby sit a fire tonight.

Try el cheapo (aka Sams club) fire logs. YOu can get them for a 1 or two dollars each. Stick it as far in and under your wood pile as you can get it...light and let it go. I usually have a self sutaining burn in 10-30 minutes (depending on size of debris and dampness).

I think I read somewhere that napalm was gasoline mixed with soap. Not sure what kind of soap, I never tried it, but it might be fun. I have heard of styrofoam in solvent being an improvised incendiary material but never needed two gallons of it to get a brush pile lit. Newspaper and cardboard usually does it. Bear Grylls (Man vs. Wild) would be dissapointed with some of you.

Due to Ussually Sometimes dry & windy conditions around here I Ussually choose to do My burning While Raining or snow . Best way I,ve found are using road flares , ( But I have several cases I bought at auction very reasonable ,That I keep in a safe dry storage area by thereselves ) . Takes a little longer to burn a big pile, But Much more safe this way IMO . Using paper or cardboard is not a good idea in My case anyway as the Embers get carryed away to far & to close to some of My old wooden outbuildings . Just My 2 bits .

I have a big pile of brush that has an old mattress or two in it in a very overgrown area in a woody little draw. Looks like the folks who had the place before me used it as catch all.

I have been slowly hacking my way to it and have cleared one side using my Husky and the brush hog. The pile is roughly 10' x 30' and about 5 - 9' tall. I want to light it this winter but don't really want to burn up a couple of trees that are close by. I can't move the pile, to hilly to get to, should I chalk up the trees as lost for a good cause?

I am a little concerned they may light up spreading to the neighboring trees that are much larger so I may have to drop them before lighting the pile.

The key no matter what you're doing is to get the heat into the middle of the pile. The dripping styrofoam NAPALM idea does it. The diesel filled tire in on the bottom of the pile does it.

The other trick is to stack your pile high and loose. Fire needs air and heat rises. I've seen many a boy scout kill a fire after he's got it lit by piling too much wood on it too quickly and too closely together.

I leave as many of the branches as I can on any trees that I am burning when I gather a brush pile to create some vents for air flow. I'll mix whatever scrap wood I have in with the loose branches. I try to leave at least one hole in the pile on the upwind side that gives me easy access as close to the center of the pile as possible. A few pieces of newspaper or a shot of starter fluid into the center of the pile usually does it.

Fisrt off the best wat to burn brrus is to stack it all one in and inter laced patern of tops and butts. I use old carpet ore a big sheeet of plastic. if its wet Ill use a 1 gallon pump sprayer with diesel in it. and spray a lit wad of news papers. Its not gonna woosh like gas used to. And when the stream hits somthing near the flame it sorta atomizes it and it gets hot quick I use this method alot. If its really wet I ll take my hay blower hitched to the tractor and blow on the litte fire stoking it then dump about a gall on offuel in the beater chamber. That gets interesting that and throw in a bale of wheat straw or kiln dried sawdust.

I have got to see this!!

Next time you are burning a wet pile, take some video, post it to you-tube, and send us a link.

One way I have found that works well came out of a abundant supply of used baling twine. I would take a bunch of twine put it in a cardboard box soak it with diesel fuel and light it. The twine acted like a big wick and will burn for a long time and not smoke a lot.

Or, you could try this:

BTW, in this day and age of terrorism, this would be considered a bomb!

.

I was wondering how long it would take someone to come up with this one.

The other option is a Molotov Cocktail.
