I've got a section of the place that is over the septic system. It looks to me like the fill used over the system was "whatever the PO could get cheaply". That would be consistent, btw.

I want to "weed out" the rocks/small broken concrete pieces and get this area down to decent material for lawn and the mmm. What implement would you use? Landscape Rake, Box speader, Ratchet Rake, or other. I'm pulling it with a 2660

Thanks!

One way would be to haul in some top soil and spred it out with a loader, back blade or rake.

That size area you might be best just picking up the smaller pieces by hand. If you have an FEL just park the vehicle and do an area then move the vehicle and repeat.

Lawn rake might help stack them or windrow them depending on the size and weight of the objects.

Once the rocks etc are out of the way then use your equipment to level the area.

I used good ole elbow grease, it's not that big of a space. I definatley would not drive anything heavy over a septic, imagine the clean up then :)

A landscape rake would get most of the top 4"-6" cleaned up pretty quickly. If you need to get down deeper, a tiller might pop all the debris to the surface for raking. There's something called a rock rake but not sure if your B2660 would power it.

I wouldn't worry about driving over leach/septic lines with a tractor, myself. Do it everytime I mow, I have a boxblade, Landscape rake, tiller and a Ratchet Rake. I could tear the crap out of the whole area with a boxblade, then till it and then drag it with a Landscape rake then do the final finish with the Ratchet Rake or as some have recommended, keep the tractor in the garage and get out and pick up rocks by hand or even haul in dirt and build a berm and then do all the work getting the rocks out of the hauled in dirt. Raising the elevation of your leach/septic lines above the surrounding yard would not be a good idea in my opinion. The sewage comes to the top and is evaporated into the air so the evaporation function of the leach lines could be impaired. Now to my point, since I have all of the necessary implements and am a bit lazy and want to use my implements, I would strap on my old/new RatchetRake and back drag all those bigger than marble size rocks up into a pile and then get off the tractor and throw them in the bucket, throw some grass seed down and maybe a little straw and pray for rain or if it was close enough to a graden hose, water it myself for a couple of weeks. I would leave my boxblade, tiller and landscape rake in their present state of rest and not disturb them assuming the ground is finished level enough to my satisfaction.

I agree with johnthomas, clean it up good and maybe even take it down a couple if inches and then truck in a few yards of screen loam and lay down about 3-4 inches and level it out then plant your seed. When I did my house I took it down about 6 inches across the whole yard then laid 6 inches of screen loam back down and then planted. Lawn came in great. Remeber if you put down the loam dont go nuts or when it rains your end up with a giant mud puddle even after the grass grows in.

50 passes with a landscape rake can clean up most anything.

Burying the whole area with a layer of loam is usually easy and desirable (raising it reduces infiltration by ponding). I have two septic systems and have done this to both drain fields, along with other grading to reduce sheet flow across the area.
