Just wondering if anyone knows what engine oils have the highest ZDDP package? With the reduction in on road oils ZDDP, because of cat concerns, in both gas and diesel vehicles.
I am looking for a good extreme pressure oil for my diesel flat tappet exposure. I know off road racing oil is still good, and old formula diesel oils were ok, but is there any mineral or synthetic still packaged for older no cat diesels? KennyV.

problem is that site is a marketing tool. And oils change from time to time.

Are you look for ZDDP only or, longest use, lowest ask, low HTHS etc. It only ZDDP you can buy a ZDDP add at autozone etc and add like 4000 ppm of zinc etc.

most max out at 3,500 avg CA nd zinc is 900 to 1,000. Amosil was real high but dropped a little.

Where do you get that from? I've been on that site for years and don't think the site is a marketing tool. Sure there are some ads and some users selling stuff... It also seems pretty "honest" to me- whenever anyone posts some sort of BS it gets jumped on pretty quick and hard. If anyone is marketing on that site they better be honest with their claims or they'll certainly get raked over the coals..personally I have no problem with honest marketing.

Name any other oil/lubricant/filter site that has more info!

Easy, when Bob owned it was much better (open forum). Then a certain oil testing house came into the forum (now gone due to owner); if not for this person, certain products that are pushed there would not be. Problem is people in certain groups all "talk the same" and see the same claims.

I would personally take Noria over that site anyday.

Bob's site lost a lot of credability for me and others when threads got removed to funnel debate to be one side, honest debates got removed and sponsors left.

If you like it that is great and that is all the matter. I like open forums here.....

Look here http://www.turbodieselregister.com/TDR57_Oil.pdf for some interesting ZDDP comparo's - 3rd & 4th pages. It doesn't cover every oil out there, tho... And, with formulations changing at the whim of the mfr, no guarantee that anything shown there will be current. :(

I'd just stick with RTS 5-40, in the CI-4+ iteration, and am, currently, frantically scurrying about scarfing up as much of it as I can for my older diesel equipment. :D
Consistently highly rated, relatively economical (although prices ARE sneaking up at Wally's :(), what's not to like?

As regards BITOG, there is a lot of info there, but they have some weird censorship policies (try to get "God" to show up in a post, for instance). If nothing else, it is another source for reading material!! :D

Sortof like a diesel truck forum I belong to....never could discuss the drain cock for the fuel filter

It would always show up as drain **** :D

You can still buy the older CI-4 versions of Rotella and I think the Rotella 5W-40 Synthetic is also still the older rating.

I'm not sure if the older versions have any benefit though. On one hand they do have higher zinc and phosphorus levels if that's what you're looking for. On the other hand Shell claims 1/3 as much valvetrain wear with their newer CJ-4 rated oils as compared to the older formulations.

I suppose that proves again there's a lot more to wear protection that just lots of ZDDP...

The "synthetic" Rotella 5W-40 is changing over to the new CJ rating...I stocked up on the old while I still could......

Claims.

I'll sit on my stash of CI-4+ and wait for some real-world results, from a variety of applications/conditions. Hey, if it's all it's cracked up to be, super!! The old stuff will still get the job done till it's time to buy the new, I figure.
