TRC has a dealer network similar to Schaeffers. Its not a pyramid scheme but you still have to buy from a local dealer or become one.

I became a dealer thinking I could sell it as a part time gig because I like the products. But even to causally sell it, it take a lot of time that I don't have. Its also pretty pricey, so most people would rather just go to the box stores and pay much less. So in short, my best and only steady customer is me.

I'm not going to pitch it on here or any other web forum for that matter because I don't want to step on peoples toes and I don't want to violate any rules with TRC or TractorbyNet. But if you want, I'd be glad to provide any info or help that I can. Just PM me.

Rules on here? LOL..Seen too many people get pushed out for no reason...In fact, look for posts from me like zero after today..

Frank - Any TRC lube rep can help you out if interested. If you want to meet personally with your local rep just give the home office in Texas a call and they can let you know who the nearest consultant is.

The lower ZDDP = greater wear myth is simply that. It may or may not be true depending on what 2 oils you're comparing...

I would disagree with that. Talk to the flat tappet muscle car guys, they are having fits with cam wear and break in. They either put in a bottle of break in additive (read wear package oil used to have, they tell you that if you really ask the cam manufactures) or "off road racing oil" that doesn't have to follow the catalytic converter rules. After market cam manufactures hate the new oils.

When CJ-4 first came out I remember reading a post where DieselPower felt that the new rated oil was far better than anything before, now that it's been out awhile and we're hearing alot of different stories, I'm curious does he still feel the same way. Not that we can do alot about it but I do value his opinion.

I saw all of those complaints too. I don't think those complaints are from guys using the current CJ-4 rated oils instead of the older formulations though. That was my point. It depends on the oil. I seriously doubt that any of the current CJ-4 oils will show more valvetrain wear than the older CI-4 oils in spite of the older oils higher ZDDP content.

I could be wrong though, most all of the manufacturers could be lying to us...

I'd like to know that too. I haven't run across anyone complaining that the newer CJ-4 oils don't work as well as the old ones.

Pretty much all motors nowadays have a roller cams for lots and lots of years so it doesn't matter to the OEMs. Just people replacing older style cams.

My understanding is that the problem is still there, the cam manufactures just know the cause and know the fix now. From what I have read, the additive packages are just for metal to metal contact like when a new cam is wearing in. After they are mated in, then there is not near as much of a problem. I also understand that no one really knows much of the additive package is needed.

The hardest thing about oil information is there is so much that is made up for marketing purposes, out dated, speculative, or just plain wrong, that its hard to sort the wheat from the chaff. So take what I say with a grain of salt. I try and sort it all out the best I can, but I have been wrong once, but I could have been mistaken.

I think you may mean roller lifters. No such thing as a roller cam AFAIK.
Lots and lots of motors do not have roller lifters, many more modern overhead cam motors for instance. Many high performance motors use a shim and bucket assembly directly pushing valves open while directly riding on the cam, no rollers there.

It is exactly this flat tappet non roller cam lifter problem that sparked my original question.
I do have some older flat tappet engines and I have seen very serious damage to cams recently, well after they were well broke in.
I also am concerned with my diesel non roller valve train AND my injector cam also non roller. This has got to be of some importance in selecting engine oils. The failures I have seen are with Royal Purple and Mobil1 both had always performed perfectly in their past formulations.
I have been running Mobil Delvac1, BUT I understand that the zinc additive pack has been reduced or will be eliminated soon in it. KennyV.

Remember the old Crower "Imperial" cam back in the 60's/70's? Had roller needle bearing journals, so, it might be considered a 'roller cam'. Really expensive, if memory serves, and I don't know if they actually produced all the benefits they claimed. Dynos weren't very prevalent back then, so a lot of the HP gains were 'guesstimated', at least in my opinion.

Too much of my youth was misspent reading hot rod magazines and dreaming. Crower and Isky used to really go at each other in some of their ads, with each guy trying to outdo the other.

But, I digress. :D
