Just wondering if anyone knows what engine oils have the highest ZDDP package? With the reduction in on road oils ZDDP, because of cat concerns, in both gas and diesel vehicles.
I am looking for a good extreme pressure oil for my diesel flat tappet exposure. I know off road racing oil is still good, and old formula diesel oils were ok, but is there any mineral or synthetic still packaged for older no cat diesels? KennyV.
I would look at schaeffer oil products also.coobie

Claims.

I'll sit on my stash of CI-4+ and wait for some real-world results, from a variety of applications/conditions. Hey, if it's all it's cracked up to be, super!! The old stuff will still get the job done till it's time to buy the new, I figure.

Did you really think they'd just make that up? If they did, it would take no time at all before it was shown to be so and it would damage their reputation forever.

Fact is, ZDDP isn't the be and all end all. It's cheap ( relatively ) and effective. But there are any number of other ways to accomplish the same thing but with likely somewhat higher cost...

Their diesel oils are all CJ-4 now too. I wouldn't hesitate to use them though. The lower ZDDP = greater wear myth is simply that. It may or may not be true depending on what 2 oils you're comparing...

For me not a myth...I had way lower wear #'s with higher ZDDP..That is why I like LC20 for ANY oil.

Frank - If your looking for a API CI-4 oil with a zinc level well over 1,000 and Calcium around 4,000 you might consider TRC. Here's a UOA I happen to have handy (and don't forget this is a used oil sample). If I remember when I get home I'll post a UOA for a CJ-4 oil.

Again, do you think it would depend on the oils in question?. Both Shell and Schaeffer claim lower wear with their CJ-4 formulations. I've run oils like Mobil 1R racing oil with its very high ZDDP level and other oils with much lower amounts. I didn't find any direct correlation in my application.

Frank, I tried LC20 and all I saw was a viscosity loss. It doesn't contain any ZDDP AFAIK and didn't seem to help with depletion. I didn't see any improvement in wear either.

I am going by my UOA and not what they claim. M1 R is not comparing tractor oils. I could state about 5 to 6 other racing oils that are great.

So you are worried about viscosity lose? Correct LC does not have ZDDP in it but I have UOA's (using Mobil, ST, Rotella and Amsoik) to show the wears dropped non-linear; greater protection. At least in the Southwest.

Since I deal with Texans at times, where do you buy it?

TRC has a dealer network similar to Schaeffers. Its not a pyramid scheme but you still have to buy from a local dealer or become one.

I became a dealer thinking I could sell it as a part time gig because I like the products. But even to causally sell it, it take a lot of time that I don't have. Its also pretty pricey, so most people would rather just go to the box stores and pay much less. So in short, my best and only steady customer is me.

I'm not going to pitch it on here or any other web forum for that matter because I don't want to step on peoples toes and I don't want to violate any rules with TRC or TractorbyNet. But if you want, I'd be glad to provide any info or help that I can. Just PM me.
