If the only criteria were ride confort, then your choice would be turf. Since that's not the only one I personally would say R-1's have more bounce than the 6 ply R-4's that I have. Taking into account air pressure I would say that pressurized the same there is probably not a lot of difference between them but there is a difference in the R4's I have now and the R1's on the Fergie.

My gut feeling is that the R1's would deliver a slightly smoother ride. I run my R4's at well below the recommend PSI. When the front bucket is really loaded, I have enough pressure in them to only be slightly flat. I think that by lowering the pressure, I get a little better ride and more importantly, more traction then when fully inflated. For what may be well the best riding tire available, a fellow here has a set of Michelin radial tires on his new L3130. We are anxious to hear his results. Rat...

I can go beyond and tell you that the farm tires will give you the best ride. The industrials will carry the most load.

My personal preference for all round use is R1 (might be different if my primary job was lawn mowing), so R1 is the only thing I've owned, although I've used a tractor with R4s. I've never used a tractor (only riding mowers) with turf tires, and I would have thought the turf tires would give the smoothest, softest ride, but I also know that Art knows more about it than I do, so I'll bet he's right. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My tractors are comparable to each other in weight, but smaller than yours. I have a Ford 1210 and a Kubota B7500. Tha Ford has R1's and the Kubota has R4's. The R1's ride smoother, absorbing the bumps better. It's not a day and night difference as long as I don't air the R4's up. With more than 12 or 15# in the R4's they are pretty stiff. I went as low as 7# with the R4's and spun one rear on the rim while under a heavy load. I loaded the R4's, but that didn't make much of a difference in ride before vs. after.
The Kubota has a loader, and I prefer to stay with the R4's on it because of that. Both designs work fine for me. Neither tears up the grass unless I run in 4WD or turn real sharply when the ground is wet....................chim

Here's a q then, are the R-4 fronts smoother on the road? I was working on the weekend and running half worn R-1's on the road had the axle set into oscillating vibrations and shakes the loader like crazy!
