Better to buy old industrial tractor or Ag tractor?

Of course old Industrial stuff is far superior. But finding one that isn't worn out is almost impossible, and if it was all restored, it really wouldn't be worth what they would probably want for it. Every now and then I see a CASE 580 with no hoe, but a 3ph.

What would you consider “isn’t warn out”?

Everything is tight and the seals don't leak. A friend bought a 70s 45 HP White Loader Tractor. It was a GREAT tractor when new. Now it's just a totally worn out piece of junk, and I don't think he has ever in ten years been able to do any work with it, as yet another ugly worn out thing crops up. He always goes for the cheapest thing out there with the idea that he can fix it up. that's ALL he has done with it. Fix it up. And, it's probably barely worth more than a nickle more than he paid for it.

There is a 340 on out local c-list but it's in freaking Kansas.

I'm not sure about the tractordata specs on the 340b. They list the tractor-only at 4600#. That I believe.

But add the 745 loader makes it a 9100# tractor???? Sure the loader is heavy-ish. But I don't believe it's that heavy.

Adding the 12' backhoe only adds another 2400# and brings a TLB up to 11.5k.

I am more inclined to believe the loader is 2400# and the hoe is 4500. Meaning the tractor loader combo is probably closer to 7000#. But someone more knowledgeable on the older Ford's or has some old literature can probably she'd more light.

I see quite a few old internationals 40-60hp range with loaders too from time to time. Usually right around your price range for the 340 as well. The 574/584 or 674/684 we're good machines

On this same topic, I'm looking at getting a Ford 340A and was about to go pick it up with my equipment trailer and tundra until I saw that 9100 lbs on tractor data. I agree that surely that can't be the actual weight with the loader. Does anyone that has one of these 340's know what the actual total weight is?

I think you need to sell your JD first. Then you'll truly know your budget. Right now we are all just speculating. And it isn't worth the stress of searching for a replacement that you can't buy regardless of how good it is.

Very true my friend. Although I may have found a in-between tractor that will do what I need while the 4320 is for sale. Might end up keeping it depending on my actual needs for a loader tractor.

At $1250 when he puts a new battery in it, gets it running so I can test it. I’m not gonna be able to pass up this one up. It’s a Ford 960, I’m not a fan of tricycle tractors but this one should do what I need. It’s got live PTO, 3pt and a trip bucket loader. (I have used trip buckets before. Most likely I’ll sell the loader for $500 and just use 3pt attachments. I would only be in a 40hp tractor for $750 at that point.

I’m also trying to get my grandpas Massey 98 bought, only 500 made and not sure how many are still around, they are very rare but not super valuable because they have no PTO or 3pt. Just a rear remote and a 3-71 Detroit diesel that makes a ton of noise lol. It’s a rebadged 990 Oliver, Massey sold to compete in the larger tractor market, they were expensive at the time and didn’t sell well.

I bought my grandpas 1929 JD GP Standard, about a month ago, just yesterday I bought the John Deere No.52 (1935-1947) 2 bottom 12” trip plough for it, off the same guy that has the 960.

So I’m getting away from the luxury of the compact and willingly getting older tractors lol.
