BH90 mounted on 3830. 3 years of use with no problems. Backhoe used for trenching, stump removal, excavation, etc...

Had mine under 5 years, never had a problem until today (that I didn't cause).
Every joint greased prior to use this morning.
I was digging a trench in the driveway and heard metal scrape... thought I had hit a pipe..
Didn't notice the cylinder.... one more dig and heard the scrape again, pulled up and SNAP!!
No pre-warning, nothing other than in 2 strokes....
It also pushed the cylinder into the boom and dented that...

THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY KUBOTA
They did a design change in 2006, enlarging the cylinder size from 29mm to around 33mm or so to deal with this issue. I am still trying to resolve it with them, but it doesn't look good right now... getting the "not our problem, your out of warranty, take it up with you dealer" speech from Mr. Dave at Kubota in Columbus (wow he was rude too, customer service??), but he did acknowledge the 2006 design change calling it a "running design change" (during my warranty period I might add). Makes me feel just great about Kubota, maybe the other orange guys or the green guys are better?. Hopefully the local dealership will help, they have been very good to me for so far. Sent all this information to them.
There are other threads dealing with this, including a video of the issue.
This is a problem that WILL happen if you curl the bucket digging while the dipper cylinder is extended (digging close to the tractor). I was digging in hard dirt/stone, no stumps involved here.

Was yours a BH75? Please let us know of any recall and how yours is resolved.

i have a BH75 with about 30 hours on it, no issues as yet but after watching that video last year and doing a lot of research i am careful not to dig stumps or hard rocky soil too close to the tractor without loosening it first..

I got my B3030 and BH75 in October 2007, I have used the BH like I stole it with no issues, I never even dreamed there might be an issue with durability, I routinely attack stumps, rocks, etc. dragging the tractor around ripping roots out, looks like brand new still, granted I probably only have about 30 hours on the BH, I hope it continues to hold up

This mainly effects pre 2006 BH75's, in 2006, the dipper cylinder was enlarged.
Kubota doesn't call this a recall or even a problem, just a "running design change". My dealer worked things out so I only had to pay 50% for the new cylinder (free would have been better, but I don't have time for an extended fight, reminds me of the "Deal or no Deal" game show... I took the deal). I am happy that Kubota responded, but the dealer has to take the credit. I gave them the information that everyone has posted to educate them on the issue. The initial answer without that information was a "NO your out of warranty". An informed dealer is going to be your best asset... Kubota made it painfully clear that they did not want to talk to me directly.
I still like my tractor and hoe, but am aware of this issue now... at least the new cylinder is the bigger one.
I will point out that I dug for 4 years before I ran into this.
Bottom line, DON'T dig right close to the tractor using the bucket curl. I wasn't in roots or even big rock, just packed driveway stone.
I think the big danger is when the dipper cylinder is extended fully and not moving when the bucket is curled.
When the cylinder is in motion the PRV should protect you.
I do NOT know if Kubota changed any relief valves (and I do need to find out... no 2nd time for me!).

I was told no additional changes were made.... I hope the bigger cylinder prevents this from ever happening again...
