Backhoe BH77 broke - defective part?

aginn,
I wouldn't worry about the pin issue preventing you from a BH77 purchase as the thread is pretty old. At the time I was purchasing one and postponed the order a few months until the issue was cleared up. My serial number starts in the A3's well past the issue numbers and it is almost two years old. Since then I have not read of any issues with that model BH. Dig away!

Did anyone figure out the factory fix.....was it a harder pin? or longer pin with retainers on the outside?

I bought a new Kubota, L3301DT with a loader and backhoe, BH77 in Jan of this year. I've broke three pins (7K503-23160) during this year and the last one Nov 5th. When the pin broke it flanged out the upper ears as it has done in the previous breaks. I pulled the ears back with a c-clamp so that I can reinsert the new pin. After a few hours of use, the pin recedes into the pin's hole approx 3/16". I called Kubota and they will pick up the hoe and determine what is causing the problem. I believe the pin is too small and that the ears are not reinforced with a support. Additionally, as it was mentioned in the thread, the other side should have a retainer to preclude it from flanging out if the pin breaks. Do you think that I need a pin and a new boom and cylinders since it has been fixed three times or should I ask for a new hoe? I don't want a repeat of this after the warranty is over. Any comments?

TwinCam88 this is not pointed at you:
I have to throw the BS card on the link posted to the broken bh77.
Look at the wear on the bucket. There is no way you can wear the paint off a Kubota bucket in 3 hours of use.
Then look at picture of the 3200 in his heated garage. That picture is PhotoShopped:ashamed:.

This quote is from way back April 2011. There is no doubt at all that this photo has been altered. Just look at the tractor - it is "floating" above the floor which has been obviously "wiped" especially in front of the rear tire. Also notice the odd striping on the floor under the front. Lots of scurrying around with the edit brush all over the floor. The prospective distance between the tractor and the garage door is too short to have a BH in there. The BH looks small in the photo whereas the garage surroundings tell another story. Is this the type of damage with twisting of the side tongues which results from pushing sideways with the boom?

Yeah, you're right, my bucket looks similar to the one in the photo, after much digging in rocky soil. 3 hours? Sweeping sideways is a bad practice with light equipment, but there are situations (backfilling a trench) where it just saves a ton of time.

I broke the pin in my BH77. It had very few hours on it at the time. If I remember, maybe 5-6. Digging a pine stump and it broke. Made a mess out of the ears on the dipper. It was replaced under warranty and so far no issues. I have also not really used it that often. 2 weeks ago it worked harder than it ever has ripping out granite curbing in a parking lot. It survived that.

Anyone else had any issues? My friend has a BH77 serial # A0539 and his pin broke.

I know this is an old thread, But I recently broke the pin holding the curl cylinder to the arm, Messicks had it in stock for about $30. I got two just in case this was common, I have never broke a loader pin in 25 years of loader operations. My L48 is a 2007 model, so this is old news I guess. I found rust all the way through the pin where it broke, it seemed to be a fractured not a clean straight break, the retaining bolt kept half of it in, so thankfully no accident and no one got hurt.

I haven't read this whole tread but things do happen. Batches of steel can have flaws. I have replaced the pins that hold the FEL bucket on my BX several times. They fracture right across the pin at the inside bushing edge. Those things once; I buy two so there is a spare on hand. Since I put the QH on the FEL that problem seems to have stopped.
