Backhoe BH77 owners

Well I have the bh77 backhoe on my L3800. Now I want the OEM thumb. So I go to my dealer and get a price last year $465. Then He says $200 to install it and tax. Thought I was capable of installing my own thumb or is it a warranty issue?? The reason I am a bit paranoid is that after buying the L3800 I noticed that the right side hand grip is missing and was told you have to buy the grand series to get that or pay extra for one. So I built my own out of a 2x4 and bolts. I use it a lot too. When I had the rim guard ballast put in, the home built hand grip was noticed. When I bought the tractor in Feb. 2011 I asked for prices and was told $950 for a thumb. I think the correct thumb is BH1976 but nowhere can I find that in any Kubota literature.
Anybody else have these experiences or do I have to find a new dealer.

Thanks Russ. That's the measurement I was looking for. I believe this thumb will fit my kx008. Just need to fabricate the bracket for the pin on the stick. Got one price of $475 plus a little shipping. I'll shop around a little more.

You are correct, the thumb appears to be listed as the BH1976. If you do a build quote on Kubota.com and when finished print the quote it will pull up an Adobe file showing the BH1976 number. I did not know a good way to put the link in the post, so I copied and pasted. Scroll to the bottom and you will see the price when building the tractor of $475.00. If your dealer quoted you $950, then yes you need a different dealer. You should be able to buy the thumb now as whole goods for around the $475.00 price. I have links above to Keller Kubota and Messick's. I would call both of them and Lashley Tractors and get prices. I think Artisan had said in the past that Lashley had good shipping prices. Lashley Tractor Sales -*Home I just can never seem to look up my parts on their site. They have listings for some parts. Maybe I need to register with them. Good luck and happy shopping.

Hi Ronster,

Was $475.00 the price for the whole kit? Whole goods? It might be what you have to pay from Kubota. Possibly shopping around or if your dealer wanted to take good care of you, they could knock something off that. I know for all my John Deere stuff in the past, my local dealer would knock, if I remember correctly, 15% off list.

Russ,the $475 was the price a dealer gave me and add some shipping to that. I'll call Messicks this week for their price this week. Also need to get a little steel to make the brackets to mount the thumb on the stick. Dose the BH77 use 1/4" or 3/16" steel for the factory brackets? Thanks.

Ps...... That was the price for the whole kit. Parts prices for the thumb piece and pin were about $454, might as well the entire kit. I can always add the hydraulics later if I want to.

The brackets appear to be 1/4" exactly. I am not sure the powder coating thickness, but it is hard to imagine it being 1/16" ????? If it was me, I would use 1/4". Hope you find someone willing to knock a little off on price, even though the $475.00 is not bad I guess.

It's the high cost of our addiction to tractors and expensive pieces of welded metal. I can find some 1/4" stock somewhere and bushings at TSC. Thanks.
