Enumclaw,

Yowwwwsers! You have GOT to be kidding! Question: what is the retracted length and the stroke?

Here is a cylinder with 2.5" bore, 1.5" rod and 20 inch stroke for 179.95 - brand new.

Need more stroke? Here's one 2.5 bore, 1.5 rod and 24 stroke for 188.95

If you want to get it fixed permanently, there are options....and for a lot less than $1300.

Naturally, it's best not to bend up what you have, but if you do...

Wow JB, very interesting. Haven't looked into prices for cylinders. I'll have to measure the retracted length and stroke. If this new one breaks, perhaps I should replace it with a cylinder with a larger diameter, say 2" or even bigger. Is that what you meant by "fix it permanently"?

This is clearly a Kubota design of manufacturing problem. Kubota should stand behind BHxx owners and fix the problem. If your cylinder breaks once Kubota should replace it on-site no charge; and replace it as many times as it breaks.

enumclaw,

Yes, getting a cylinder with a rod that is larger is what I mean. You will be limited in how large you go by the mounting brackets and the diameter of the pins that holds the cylinder to the BH. Also, as the current cylinder is 2.5" diameter, you could probably go to 3" diameter bore, but much larger and you risk other forms of damage due to over powering the frame.

Strength of the rod goes up as the square (or is it cube?) of the diameter, so you don't have to get real big to make a difference.

I agree guyrj33. So far Kubota and my dealer have replaced the broken rods/cylinders with no out of pocket expense to me but others have not been so lucky. It has been frustrating to work for an hour and break the rod without completing my projects but hopefully that is over with this latest repair. If I do break this rod, I will continue to work with Kubota and the dealer as long as they do not charge me $. If their policy changes, I will be disappointed in Kubota and will examine off brand cylinders as the tractor is out of warrenty anyway.
