Super stuff. I also have loaded R1's so hearing that you haven't had troubles really helps. I assume that I will need to remove rear 3pt hitch arms right ? Also MDD did you read the heated discussion on proper positioning of the tires during BH operation. One side quite sure rear tires should not be lifted off the ground with stabilizer bars and the other says absolutely lift rears and fronts with FEL. What have you been doing..?

For best thumb operation, you need to get at least the 16". I have a 12 & 18 on my BH80-X. I'd say get the 18" if you are only getting one bucket. I kind of regret spending the cash on the 12.

Thanks Hazmat I will go standard bucket at 18 and have solid thumb setup. Did you see my other note on tires up/down or somewhere in between. There was a contentious discussion on how digging operations should be conducted.

I only remove the top link and the stabilizers to the 3pt arms, but you could remove the arms as well and then be worry free during BH ops. On my tractor, I keep the 3pt arms fully lowered and use a bungy cord to keep them from flopping around when the BH is attached. My manual shows the BH mounted with the arms still on, but the stabilizers removed. Not sure about your 55 clearances. Removing the arms doesn't take much additional effort.

Regarding wheels off the ground........The idea is to establish a solid 3pt stance when conducting BH ops. Most BH's are on tractors that also have the loader installed as well. Lowering the FEL and the BH stabs down so that the tractor's weight is transferred to those 3pts creates that solid base for your TLB. The tractor's center of gravity shifts significantly as you swing the BH's through its 180 degrees of travel. When digging trenches directly inline with the tractor, I cheat and don't create that 3pt stance. It makes it easy to reposition the tractor down line with the bucket, and since the discharge is right along the trench edge I'm not swinging the BH more than a few degrees. However, if I'm on uneven ground or working at any angle off the line then I make sure I've established a solid 3pt base. I don't feel it matters whether the wheels are completely off the ground or just enough so that you're confident the weight has transferred to your 3pts.

There is an excellent book that covers most any type of TLB operation you could think of that many regard as the "Bible" to TLB operations, Operating Techniques for the Tractor-Loader-Backhoe , by Gary J. Ober, ISBN: 0934041075 : 9780934041072 ; OCLC: 12949633. What I like about this particular book is that it is great not only for the novice but the professional operator as well. You can probably get a copy either directly from your library or through an inter library loan. I live in a rural area (like many of us TBNers) and used [WorldCat.org] Search for books, music, videos, articles and more in libraries near you with the help of my county librarian to find this book and have it loaned to our library. Sorry Mike, got your tractor confused with Bill's. You have a 35, Bill has a 55. In any case, your 35 is the same frame as my 40 so your 3pt arms should be fine on or off with the 90 installed.

If you do leave them on, you need to be cautious when mounting/dismounting the BH to avoid having them contact the BH. There's clearance, but not much. You also need to be careful that you don't accidently raise the 3pt arms into the BH once it's installed. I know of at least one person who's done that.... .

I have the 90 on my TC55DA and totally agree with everything Maddog has said, although I go ahead and remove my lower arms. Like he said it doesn't take much time and I like to be worry free about those things back there. I have filled rear R4 tires and I pretty much get most of the weight off of them with the stabilizers on the hoe and put the front loader down good. Can you post the link to the discussion about this??? Also I preferred the Woods to the NH hoe but have never honestly worked the NH. Mine cost approx $10k. I like the curved boom on the Woods and went with the 12" bucket. It works fine but i'd like to have an 18" one for it. Anyone have a line for a good place to buy a bucket that will match this hoe?

Im looking for a bh90x for tc45 , should I get a seperate PTO pump since the tc 45 has 9.8 hyd gph right on the edge , also the dealer priced me 12g , compared to 8g for the nh bh , how about the rhino ? 16" or 18" bucket , I am in ohio , does anyone know of dealers that have the units in stock ?

I wouldn't get a separate PTO pump. I have a T2320, which is the newer TC45DA, with a woods BH90X and a hydraulic thumb. I run the tractor at around 1500rpm's and have plenty of power and speed.

I bought the backhoe with the tractor and paid $10,500 with a hydraulic thumb.
