My metal storage needs are much smaller. But the headaches are just as large. I always have one corner stood full of 3ft or longer pieces. The bottom shelf on my welding table is always full. I added a strong steel drawer for smalls. Still, as everyone knows, I spend too much time looking for that perfect scrap that I know I saved...… :(

Thank you Rustyiron. Those “chain pots” were a terrific find. Glad you posted the pic in case someone wants to make similar.

My cheap import bender is “outside corner” located in my shop. It is concrete lagged to the floor. The outside corner location allows full usage (after moving my tool boxes) while not being in the way.

My Hossfeld is horizontal receiver mounted to my welding table for stability. The receiver mount is on the right as the bending forces are clockwise.

The cabinet base has two 1/4” strips of flat bar welded to the bottom which allows easy moving with a hand truck if necessary.

These posts have a lot of interesting photos. It may be awhile before we start looking at machine tool (well I am looking now just not buying) until we get an area prepared. There are a lot of options that are 3 phase but I do not want to go to that expense. We have single phase out of a 200 amp box but the transformer is just picking up one phase of the three phase utility grid system.

Is that a Hossfeld cabinet? Never seen one of those, all the ones I've seen are on a large diameter pipe style stand (mine included). Yours looks like new! Is it a No.1 or 2?

TMGT I'll be looking for up dates from you on your progression. I think I may be "speaking" for others as well.:D
I really should start a thread on the build, I kept meaning to but was so busy i just didnt feel like it and didnt take as many pictures as I should have. Mainly I have pictures of the work I hired out (concrete and framing).

Yes that is a Hossfeld cabinet and the original No 1 bender. I refurbed everything and repainted. I even talked to the owner of Hossfeld but was unable to get new decals of any sort so I got the MADE IN USA decal off eBay and had my sign guy design a “custom” Hossfeld decal.

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

BTW as you probably know a No2 bender is heavier and has larger die pins which make it readily compatible with most other popular benders.IIRC

Well I have to say it turned out excellent, you don't see too many No.1's, I remember looking and it seems dies were a bit harder to come by used, did they only put that style cabinet under the No.1? I was lucky and had the opportunity to purchase a No.2 a few years ago that came with a good number of dies and the 180deg arm and the hyd. setup

TMGT I’m quite certain the cabinet only came with the No 1 as an option and the pipe stand as an option on No 2’s like yours.

I came across mine from an old fellow who had purchased it used about 30 years prior. He never got around to using it and because it came with the OEM cabinet and a box of various dies I grabbed it.

However these parts which I ended up fabricating myself, were missing:

I was fortunate to find dimensions on line which eliminated having to purchase them. They would have been an outrageous price by the time I got them into Canada.

I figured close tolerances weren’t necessary and as you can see I DIDN’T use the milling machine to fab as it would have taken way too long with my limited machining skills.

I was in the shop on the weekend and heard this hammering noise...what the.....?..

After ascertaining he hadn’t nested yet, short of pulling a sh*tload of insulation out, I covered the hole with a piece of sheet metal.

She’s back AGAIN this morning. ( sheet metal covered hole on the left)

I think I’ll just leave it and patch the hole in a month or two after they’re all gone. This is a south facing wall and most likely the warmest spot on the property.

Birds are A-holes.........
My dad has a cardinal that attacks the passenger window and mirror on his truck constantly, has to put a owl decoy and fold his mirrors in everytime he parks.
