I watched the film this evening. I guessed it was just released on YouTube. The film was about the homeless problem in Seattle. It was clear that these people are also drug addicts. The point is that by allowing this homeless problem to continue, the city is inadvertently contributing to the overall problem. Those that are paying thier way are reaping the collective criminal reward that this homeless element leaves in its wake.
According to the film virtually all of these "homeless" are either drug addicts or mentally disabled.
As these people break the law either by stealing or simply by executing the lifestyle of living on the street, they are arrested and then released the same day... Even some violent crimes are not prosecuted.
This ineffective judicial system is seen as the root of the problem.

...many aspects of your statement are similar to the problem at the southern border.

Our jails and prisons are filled with the mentally ill and drug addicted, which incidentally are not adequately equipped to handle these types of prisoners. There was a time when the mentally ill were committed to an institution which WAS equipped to handle them; however, what with the combination of the exorbitant outlays of cash required, and the liberal do gooders, these folks were given drugs and turned out on the streets to fend for themselves. The problem that was created has not been adequately addressed; in fact some of the big cities policies have made it worse. I don't know what the answer is, but it's not what we're doing now.

I suspect that's been the question throughout time, and don't believe that anybody has ever found the answer.

So many are seeking that mythical place and few find it...

It has become a thing with those nearing retirement taking trips to check out places they are considering... in the last 4 months several have sold all and moved to Arizona...

Arizona is very popular right now... but Nevada, Oregon and Texas are still popular.

...

It seems to me that those folks who are moving here bring their ideas that made California undesirable and try to make their new home into the same thing.

I wish you people would stop using "we" in your comments.

"We" is all inclusive. In many, many instances individuals like myself are powerless to make a difference and change things. Some of us don't have the money (political clout) or the platform to voice our opinion and are forced to accept what is thrust upon us. Sure I have a vote, but if I am in the minority, I lose in the end. :confused3:

City people are too lazy to make a difference. If they took ownership of their city, things would change. I own both sides of a paved county road for a quarter of a mile. The litterbugs are always dumping trash out of their vehicles, including tires, mattresses, and household garbage. I pick it up and dispose of it because I have pride and ownership of my property. The business owners who complain about the debris in the streets are just lazy clowns who would rather complain than bend over and pick it up.

Highly misleading title in that it implies opioid and meth addiction is a big-City problem. Theyæ±*e not. For example, Metropolitan Boston has a population of around five million. The overdose death rate is 31.8 per 100,000. In largely-rural New Hampshire, the rate is 37.0 - 16% higher. In West Virginia, it is 58. Vermont is 23.2, Maine 34.4.

Drug Overdose Mortality by State

We raised our kids in the city (among other reasons) so they would see what drugs and alcohol do to a person’s life. We drive them past Methadone Mile on the way to school.

Cities overall are booming. Boston has gained 70,000 in population in the last 10 years. Boston has 150,000 college students and startup businesses that attract young people, but a lot of empty-nesters are moving back into the city because living in the suburbs has little appeal for them.

Watch the video, at least 15 min of it.... I am sure not all cities are going through what Seattle is, but the West coast cities are and probably Denver, Minneapolis.... the city is allowing rampant drug use and it leads to decay. Seattle is thriving economically,,, booming actually. But this ugly side makes being in the city distasteful and the crime is going through the roof.

Here is the link again.

KOMO News Special: Seattle is Dying | KOMO

I watched the vid....
I was ready to turn it off after 10 minutes, but watched the entire thing.
I have never been to Seattle, I used to want to see it.
I will never go there now!

On another note, I found a funny sitcom on Amazon Prime called CORNER GAS. A lot of us might remember that as our standard of living. Now we have more inconvenience than ever.
