Just bought a Kabota 15 Kw generator and WOW its a biggun'. About 900lbs and 92 inches (including the fuel cell storage unit) long. Im building a dolly so it can be transported from the garage to the driveway when we need to use it. At this junture Ive constructed a basic dolly from 4x4s and some 2x12s we got at the lumber yard. I'll be installing the 50 gallon semi saddle tank on the dolly today and wondered if anyone could throw some ideas on a quick removal method I can use when we have to refill it. Its aluminum so chains might be a bit tricky. Been milling over the idea of 4x4 underneath with I bolts but Im thinking when we lift it with a backhoe it might crush it. Bare in mind this thing is gunna weigh a poop load when its filled. Any feedback or plans anyone might have would be welcome.

Put some straps around it, (I would use steel flat) and then put some webbing under the straps, and put some lifting rings or a bar across, the top of the strap to make a center point lifting point, if wanted one could make feet on the bottom of the straps, so the tank would set level and not roll when sat down,

take a look at this post, http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/oil-fuel-lubricants/135862-fuel-storage-tank-stand.html

picture (and intresting idea moving a 55 gallon drum, some thing possibly like this could be made,

Why not build it on a trailer chassis, with a removable tongue ?

Is it a 15 kw liquid cooled unit,, If it is why not just leave it inside and pipe the exhaust out ???

I set my generator up in side put the fuel tank out side, and piped the exhaust out side, by opening up the door it keeps adequate cooled, ended up building a shed for the generator finally,

snowjoker has a good idea. This spring I plan to buy a 10kW or 12kW unit and will mount it on the cheapest highway ready trailer I can find that's good for the weight. That way, if any family member needs it, I can deliver it easy.

it will cost you a few more $$, but consider a welder unit, like a Lincoln, or a Hobart or Miller, they all can be used as generators and a good welder as well.

Interesting idea, BHD.
I'll sure consider it.
Thanks.
