LD1, awesome, well-thought-out reply!

The loader issue is looming a bit larger for me as I think about the need to run around with the loader on and that I'm constantly popping it up and down: I'll reach out here and there and snag stuff from the non-pasture areas, the fringes, not really wanting to take too much time away from my focus of mowing (I have a bit of ADD, so these things happen!).

And so far, after climbing aboard all the machines I'm not thinking that my old body would like a bit more comfort: I've suffered from some really bad neck issues that were due to abuse aboard my B7800 (I'll whip it around so fast that my neck will spin! :D actually, turned around to mow while slamming over irregular terrain is what caused this); I'm not to far gone and I'd like to keep from really getting to the point where it's chronic. Anyway...

I'll see if I can get the dealers to do the foot work on the turning radius issue (give me numbers on non-brake-assisted turning).

I agree with what most everyone else is saying about needing to really spend some time looking at each machine. I think you already know that, though. I will mention that it's not at all uncommon for manufacturers to have relatively major mistakes listing the specs of these machines. Trust but verify is the way to go here, I think.

Maybe it is because the Kiotis front axle knuckles are mounted in double shear and the kubota is a single shear design

jmo but double shear is generally considered stronger and used on utility tractors versus many CUTs that use the single shear design

403 Forbidden Kioti

Interesting, that is that I have only heard of the double shear in output shafts to the wheels on cars and trucks!

Yeah the axle design seems to shift pretty consistently to the double shear once the CUTs get up around 50 hp.
seems like most utility tractors have double shear front axles and once above around 55-60 hp start seeing planetary geared axles with regular ujoint axle shafts.
There may not be that many Kubota threads about single shear being a problem - but a few that do show up seem like the out of pocket on an out of warranty repair by dealer is close to $1000 and there do seem to be more threads about seal replacement. Also my FILs 2310 Yanmar with single shear needed both sides completely rebuilt including gears.
This older thread has some interesting info http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/123302-need-help-w-kubota-l3710-3.html

if you go back to the beginning of the thread it goes into some more detail about the design differences and post 15 shows 2 Kubotas with the differing styles.

Went out to my back field to test the turning radius. The grass is very tall and though it would be easy to observe and measure. After driving in circle for a minute I had a very defined inner and outer circle of standing grass. The inner circle of standing grass was exactly 8 feet across. Going from the center of that out to my wheel was approximately 12 feet 3 inches. I will try and upload the video this evening.

That's just makes me laugh for some reason.

You should title it....."Crop circling with a kioti"

I feel bad to have folks running around in circles!

I'm hoping that people really do see the apparent mystery here. It's all in the name of science!

Not to derail and start an whole other discussion....but I wonder where they measure the turning radius to?

Obviously center of the circle.....but out to the inside tire? Center of the tractor? Outside tire?

I also find kubotas ~8.5' with brake spec a bit misleading? I can use the inside brake and that tire wont move. It will just sit there and spin in a circle. So wouldnt my "min radius w/brake" be whatever width I have the tires set at?

We have gotten alot of rain here over the last 4-5 days, plus I am in the middle of my work week. If there is still an interest, when things finally dry out, I will test my MX5100 in similar fashion, and see what it is without brakes.
