Big mistake

I bought a B2230 and paid for it, was waiting for R4 tires for it and started re-thinking it.

Ended up buying a B7510 mainly for the extra ground clearance. Fortunately I made the change before taking delivery on the 2230 so I just threw some extra money through the dealers door and have been happy ever since.

Of course this time of year in Texas I start looking at something with a cab and A/C on it and go into the 'wishful dreaming' mode.

I have no advice on what you should do but you might talk to the dealer you bought the 2230 from and see what he would do on a trade. With only 35 hours on it he might have a customer who would like to save a little money and would buy it. Won't hurt to ask him.

I gotta agree with DiezNutz,

If you are looking to Biggie-Size, go to the 3030! ...and never look back.

I'm assuming you don't want to take on way too much tractor-debt?
You should be able to get decent $$ for a BX with 35 hrs!??!

When I retire in several years, I'd like to move out to the country for some more property and the L3030, (or it's equivalent at that time) is looking like the right machine to me.

So, from what you guys recommend, an M9540 is about the smallest upgrade I ought to consider?

Whatever you do make this decision before you've invested money in implements sized for your little tractor. Big or small they cost a lot and you won't be happy pulling that 3 foot brushhog with your new tractor that's able to pull one six feet wide.

Having a tractor is only the beginning of this expensive endeavor. You'll spend hundreds, or more likely thousands making modifications and buying tools to work whatever tractor you have, and a very substantial part of that money will be unrecoverable when you upgrade to start all over.

The point is often made here: buy a bigger tractor than you think you need. Part of the reason for that sage advise is that there's much more to upsizing than simply dropping by your dealer to make a trade.

I'm saying this with all kidding aside. If there's even a remote chance that you are not going to be satisfied with what you have, don't wait. Even now your losses are accumulating with every hour on the tractor clock.

I'm in the same boat as you. The BX fills the need but I would really like to have a larger B-series.

Here are my thoughts on the 7510...

Nice tractor, but... It doesn't weigh significantly more than a BX and; when you do the math on the difference in tire size, the extra horsepower goes away. In fact, the BX2350 actually puts more power to the ground than the B7610.

So it really comes down to ground clearance, 3PH height, ride quality and (maybe) traction.

As for me, I think I will stick with the BX for now. The wife is on to me! She sees me eyeing those orange beauties every time we go through town.

Thats right nothing like a M9540 I spend more time with mine than the wife, good post buddy

I went to the fair last October and sat on a new Kubota also. It's not your fault. The end result is inevitable. It is out of your control...

I went to a fair the other day and sat on a B7510. I own a BX1500.

The big mistake is I can't stop thinking about that tractor. All that power. All that ground clearance...

I don't really regret buying the BX1500, but I've moved to a much larger lot since I bought it last year. Now I could really use the extra horsepower to improve the land - chipper, brushhog, etc.

What to do?! I can't justify a $2000+ loss on the BX plus an extra $3500+/- to get into the B7510. In fact, I don't even have 35 hrs. on the BX...

Can I get some kind of amnesia pill to forget the whole experience?!

I too would trade the BX in on a tractor at least one size larger then what I thought I needed. While a 7510 may have done the job for me my B7800 is a bit larger with more power. A L2800/3400 would be my pick (knowing what I know now know) for my needs.

I did the same thing. I looked at the BX tractors 3 years ago and ended up buying a 7510 this year after much thinking. As it was stated before it really does not have much extra power or weight but the extra ground clearance, FEL and 3PH capacity was worth it. I probably could use a larger machine and get away with the smaller one too. But why spend the extra 1000's when I can just ask one of my neighbors to help with the rare large job. They have larger machines sized for 100+ acres and are VERY HAPPY to help out the little guy (me).

I have owned the "L" series, BX and B series. For my very hilly land and tree aplications the "B" series is perfect.
My dealer told me the ratio is about 20:1 sales of B7800 to B3030; if I were to do it again(and I WILL in 3 years) I would buy the B3030. They are worth the extra $ for what you get. Don't get me wrong-I love the B7800. The power to weight ratio is better then my L3010.

Northland-I still love that dog!!

Kinda surprised at that... maybe it's a regional thing where you are? On here it seems there's at least as many B3030's being bought as B7800's, if not more.

Thanks-I do love the big dummy too. His name is Delmar-named after the one of the three main characters in the movie "Brother Where Art Thou" with George Clooney. He is a good grouse dog and he keeps the bears away from the house too.

I would disagree. I wish my B8200 was a B9200 with the extra HP.

I run out of traction when scraping, or scooping with the FEL. When running the PTO though, I wish I had more HP. Especially, with the rotary mower.

what bells and whistles?
same tractor, different hp.
you will run out of traction before hp on either.

Go for the glory. At least get a B3030, don't fiddlefart around with a marginally bigger tractor. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing to excess :D

Nicely said, DiezNutz!

What a dilemma! My wife always encourages me to buy one size bigger than I think I need. Wanted to trade up from the Yanmar 1500D so I looked at an L3600GST. Seemed to be the right size but it was very used and abused. Settled for the B3030HST and am very happy with it. Wife likes it so much that I rarely get a chance to use it myself! Guess I'll have to get that grand L pretty soon.

I vote with KevinJ. Keep the BX1500. You'll need something to pull the wagon after you fill it with dirt/chips/compost/whatever using the B7510. Plus the wife can get the mowing done with the BX while you're out doing "man" things with the B.

Now you won't lose a nickel on the BX. See how easy that was? We're good at that here.
Bob
I use a BX1500 for blade and tiller jobs .
This frees up the BX23 for mowing fel work and BH jobs.
The other BX1500 is my around the house mower.

$1000. to $1500. to jump from a B7800 to a B3030, depending on what part of the country you call home. Thats a no brainer, coast to coast!
