TN, I know a lot of people with very similar setups. I have never heard of police checking anything having to do with trailers. I'm not going out of state or out of town. So, I guess that's a crappy answer and I will get some responses about how irresponsible and dumb I am :(. Oh well.......

Well, at least you know it doesn't have brakes so your not dumb. Just driving it around town you should be fine unless your pulling it with a Ford Focus......

Farm trailers around here are exempt.

It's not a farm trailer, but will be used in a similar capacity (for my house and yard).

The funny thing is, I got TN tags for it.

does TN have a permanent tag or do you have to buy one every year?

Renew. I thought it was permanent.

I wouldn't want to be in your shoes if you take it on the road and something happens or some innocent person gets hurt. And it does happen irrespective of how short or safe the trip may seem. Good way to loose everything you have when your insurance company fails to cover any property or liability claims because you know the trailer is not legal in your state but chose to disregard the law. All for what, saving a few dollars to do it right and put brakes on it? Legal services typically run $300 an hour. How much are brakes?

I wonder why they are made/sold that way? I would not want to be responsible for hurting anyone.

Less than $300 per axle.

Sorry, but my opinion is not getting brakes on at least one axle is penny-wise and pound-foolish.

Less than $300 per axle.

.

Exactly (mine was a Rhetorical question). A ~5000 lb loaded trailer w/o brakes is a lot of weight pushing you around, I don't care if you're driving a dually.

It's rated at 4500lb. The most I'm going to carry is 2500lbs of gravel or 2 pallets of sod.
