Bruce, glad to here that you have been happy with the Big Bee. Time will tell, I hope was'nt too positive sounding being I only used it once but it did work like a charm.

Pooh_Bear,

When I moved from NM to OK, the place we bought had an old Ford 8N w/a 60" Big Bee brush hog. I use it to keep the pasture grass mown around the place. I've tried to keep it maintained, although its age is working against me.

One of the grease fittings was broken, so I took it out and went to all the hardware stores in the area, trying to find a replacement. Seems the threads were too course for what anyone had available. I wasn't looking forward to having to "leapfrog" fittings - unscrewing each one after greasing, then moving it to the next spot - so I came on-line with a Google search.

I was fortunate enuf to find your answer with the address and phone # of Darrell Harp Enterprises, Inc. out of GA. I called them, and even though it was after 6PM there, a girl in the parts dept. was able to help me. She was quite knowledgable, w/o having to look up anything. Said the fitting for that model Big Bee was metric, and would ship some out to me next morning. (UPS had already picked up for the day.) Today, I got confirmation the part had been shipped.

Long story short - I appreciate you sharing the contact information and it does a cynical guy good to see companies still out there that excell in customer service.

Well that IS good news. A company that will deal directly with the consumer.
My BB finish mower is still going strong. I replace the belt once per year.
I keep it greased and try to keep the blades sharp. Clean it out occasionally.
Some day I may get around to cleaning it up real good and painting it.

Glad you got what you needed.

I was doing some research on a Big Bee Finish Mower today and happened across this thread. I too found the information posted by Pooh Bear.

I did a search and came up with a working site for Darrell Harp Enterprises. The link is posted below:

Is Big Bee and Atlas Equipment made by the same company? Is that company in Mississippi? If so does anyone have some contact info on them, I am from Mississippi and and tying to get in touch with the folks that make Atlas Disks.
I am wanting to purchase an Atlas Disk Locally in MS, An auction here in MS carries them new, but they (the implements) dont have any info on them, The person who sells them said they are made by Atlas. They appear to be very well made, I just dont want parts to become in issue if/when I need them.

It appers by all indications that they are the same just wondering if anyone knows this to be true,

It looks like these guys distribute both, think I will email them to see if they can enlighten me.

Pooh Bear

PB,

I was mistooken. My BB is also a finish mower.

One question: Are the nuts on the blades LH threads? I was trying to get the blades off the other day and had no luck whatsoever. I didn't even think of LH threads, but have since heard that is a possibility.

Oh. I traded in the 8n on a new JD 3005 w/FEL. Kept the BB, and it, like yours, is "going strong." Now if I can just get those blades off.............

Yep, the blade bolts are LH threads. You can get them at Tractor Supply.
I got a new set of blades and bolts from TS a couple of years back.

I plan on taking my blades off tomorrow and sharpening them,
scraping the crud out from under the deck and cleaning it good,
replacing the belt with a new one, and giving everything a good greasing.

Mine used to have stickers on it that said grease the spindles after every 8 hours of use. This works out to about every 3 mowings for me. I go ahead and grease everything else while I'm at it.

PB....your info has been great...

now I have a new question for you guys with the BB finish mower. I've got the 6-footer, and it's been cutting great, but just broke the belt. This is my first time replacing it, and I'm having trouble. I think I've got it routed right, but I can't get it over that last pulley! What's the proper procedure, or what's the trick?! Is there an easy way? Do I have to remove any of the pulleys to get the belt on?

I'm not very knowledgeable, but I'm trying to learn....thanks!

Oh well, damaged the wheel assembly on my BigBee brush hog. Anyone know a good source for replacement. Don't need the wheel but the rest is bent to include the shaft that attaches the whole assembly to the brush hog. Thanks.
