I loaned one of my trailers to my neighbor. When I got it back both low hanging lights were broken off from where he backed up a hill. He was nice enough to cover the cost of new, higher quality lights and helped me mount them higher up on the trailer. So as I see it, he did me a favor. We straightened the license plate back out and mounted it via a strip of heavy rubber so it would swing if something did hit it. It was a lousy design from the factory that you see quite often in trailers. While we were at it, I also mounted rock deflectors on the new side clearance lights which had been broken by gravel being thrown up by the wheels. You'd think they could foresee such obvious deficiencies during manufacturing.
