Black bucket or JD green?

The 70 loader has a green bucket, and when they started calling it the 70A loader, the bucket was more squarish and painted black. I think a lot of 790's had the 70/70A loader on them.

Partially wrong!! The bucket on my model 70 loader was and is factory black!

My 1993 755 has a 70A loader with the black bucket.

You have me curious about your loader. The manuals and JD Parts all show the 70A is not for the 755. It is possible the wrong decals could be on yours. JD in their own advertising doesn't always pull everything together correctly. The attachment shows what is clearly a 70A (on an 855) with 70 decals. Are your masts vertical, or kinked? The s/n plate on my 70 loader (with black bucket) includes 70A in the sequence, but does not mean it is a 70A. The s/n plate on my tractor shows 755D, but of course that only indicates 4WD and SCV, not a model change designation. Again just curious about this mostly trivia, although it could become important if ordering parts.

More trivia:
Note on square, round, green, black, or anything else buckets. JD Parts still shows exactly the same information as my 1992 parts catalog. Meaning only three part numbers for buckets: 48, 54, and 60 inch. The drawing shows the rounded style, and no designation is given as to color. One number of course matches my black square bucket. I expect alll the combinations met JD specs and you just got what JD got from its vendors. In the industry that's called meeting form, fit, and function.

Welcome,, my 790 also has the 70 loader with a black bucket.. If you paint it green it would have to be shiney like the tractor and would be a pain in the butt to maintain, flat black (read this as cheap paint) is the best.

I had a 790 with a 70 loader and a 54" bucket. The factory bucket was flat black. :thumbsup:

That's OK. Always enjoy pictures of other 755's anyway. I thought maybe you had one of those rare factory errors. My custom ordered Ford Explorer is a Limited model, but when it came in it had an Eddie Bauer model emblem on the back. Probably was the last thing to go on the vehicle as it came off the assembly line. Everything else was correct so I had to point it out to the dealer so he would change it. Of course I had immediately spotted it.

The change to the black squarish bucket did about line up with the introduction of the 70A loader,but I wouldn't say that was the reason. Originally two versions of the 70 loader were sold. One to fit the 755 and one to fit the 855. Same loader, the 855 version just had a longer horizontal frame to fit the tractor. Later the 855 version was changed to instead "kink" the masts forward. They called that the 70A, while the 755 (and 770) retained the 70. Since buckets were sold separately from the loader, some 70A got black and some got green.

Thanks for pointing that out, I had assumed incorrectly that the round/squarish bucket came about because of the 70/70A change....but that shows you what assuming will do!

Thanks for the picture. It's entirely possible as they made the transition to the new style masts that they produced some with the 70 decals. The early ad in my previous post was the same way. Always more for me to learn, and still more trivia for the historians to figure out. Is your loader serial number above or below 110001?
