Welcome to TBN, and the Power-Trac forum.

Cutting edge is always on the bottom.

I might also suggest a little dab of bathroom calk on the bolts, and new hardened washers as well...

If you are referring to postions relative to each other, it doesn't matter whatsoever. Just make sure they are right side up, as JJ said.

None of that is needed on a 48" finish mower. Mine has over 300 hours on it. Nothing has come loose that didn't actually break. :p

Same for me. But on a related topic....how many times can you sharpen the blades?? I'm guessing as long as you can maintain balance you are good to go? If I were to replace the blades would mulching type blades work? I rarely get windrows after cutting unless I waited too long to cut the grass....but I would love to be able to mulch the grass a bit finer to cut down on what my puppies track into the house.

Don't mulching blades require a baffle to keep the grass trapped under the deck while it is being sliced and diced? I installed a mulching kit on my lawn tractor. It included a baffle.

Mulching blades can be used as a direct replacement for regular blades. Mulching blades combined with a mulching kit where available (baffles, etc) will generally give better mulching results than use of mulching blades alone.

However, the PT mower design (at least the one I have) is "rear discharge" which means a heavy rubber sheet on the rear of the mower and there is no mulching kit available from PT.

The PT mower blades are a stock replacement item for another brand, at least on the 48" finish mower. I forget the brand name at the moment. The blades are available from several lawn equipment supply houses. A little digging should reveal the mulching blades for that same equipment, if they exist.

Take off one of the blades and look carefully. You should find a number on there. Google that number along with mower blade. You should find it. Measure to confirm it is the correct blade.

I may have posted my source a few years ago. I bought a bunch of blades at the time and haven't had to reorder yet, mainly because I switched to the brush mower for the Xmas trees.
