so hoping the dealer and I can come to a suitable arrangement on this.

Seems easy to do, as what the dealer delivered to you doesn't work. One of the easier problems to explain to the dealer, IMO. ;)

The clutch engagement is wet and internal. I have never heard of a clutch failure in a K92, so I highly doubt this is the case.

Let us know when you find out!

I'll be speaking to them tomorrow as they've had the mower 10 days.
I like the 740 a lot and don't want to let this one go as, although it's got big hours, I feel the motor is good and I could well get a good deal as we're knocking on the door of winter over here and I'm sure they don't want this machine sitting around in the yard when they've got a potential buyer living 2.5 miles away who will more than cover their costs plus be back for parts/servicing (maybe).

there is actually a tech solution out there for the problem, leading to "Possible blockage in oil passage(s) or valve(s) sticking or binding"
solution is:
"First be sure not an electrical problem, verify voltage at PTO solenoid.

Check PTO pressure per TM, should be at least 200 psi.

Remove and inspect PTO pressure control valve and PTO solenoid. Check for free movement in bore - debris, signs of binding, etc. Replace as needed."

That's interesting Dutch..... thanks for the info. Might not be as drastic as I initially thought.

Quick update - popped into the dealer and they have found a faulty bearing and/or valve that was reducing the hydraulic pressure to the clutch (I think he said). They've got the parts and will try to get it back to me for more trails by the end of the week.
So not the clutch itself then (well done JD!).

Finally! 740 came back to me yesterday and seems to be all fixed. :)
I'm not sure what they had to do but it really does look like the plate on the back of the transmission is brand new. The mid-pto output shaft was wobbling about quite a bit and I mentioned it to them and it's now pretty solid - I guess they'd need to remove the plate at the back to get to the failed bearing but why renew the plate??

Anyway I've been having fun on it even though the weather here in the UK is rather damp for grass cutting (especially quite long grass). I've noticed that when cutting 8" high grass, with the deck as high as it will go, it does sometimes get clogged and makes a bit of a noise and then dumps a load of wet grass/leaf mulch out of the bottom of the deck - I presume this is a limitation of the mulching deck and probably wouldn't happen in better conditions with drier grass?

Any thoughts?

Oh yeah - engine seems sweet but now the diff lock pedal is down to the deck all the time which it wasn't before. :(

Can it be both ways? Or am I missing something here? Maybe time for it to go back for another round.

Well the original issue is all fixed! If I get a chance today I'll have a look underneath as the diff lock pedal issue could be as simple as a linkage not being connected.
I'm not too keen on returning it to the dealer again before we've done a deal as I do want to keep this machine if the price is right - I've got some work for it to do and and I've not paid anything yet. Any deal will involve the diff lock being fixed if there is a problem.

OK, as long as the diff lock isn't actually locked, but just the pedal disconnected.
