Stupidly ran my Ford 1700 out of fuel and haven’t Ben able to successfully bled the fuel pump and restart the engine. Have Ben opening the bleed screw on the fuel pump while cranking the starter, but no success. Just getting a little bit of pulsing foamy bubbles every time, after about 20 attempts. Any secrets to being successful?
I’ve done this before, e.g. after changing the fuel filter and it has worked pretty quickly.

Check your user manual. You'll probably find instructions reminding you of the step in the process you forgot.

On my old Massey It has two screws. I bleed the top till no air. Then the bottom. Works perfect

Not familiar with that vehicle, but on my RV there's a bleed screw on top of the fuel filter housing.

If you ran it out of fuel the procedure is little more involved than just changing filters. You will also need to crack the injector lines (at least the easiest ones you can reach) open the throttle and crank the engine until you see some fuel AT the injectors. Tighten the lines and it SHOULD start after that. May take a few seconds of cranking before you see any smoke but then it should start.
