I got a JD-B with a hand clutch.. but the darn thing is so hard to get on...

I know one thing.. I won't be on my ford 660 any time soon. The ford hundred series with dual stage clutches, had those pedals up around your knee almost.. way high... I won't be using that sucker for a while...

I got my J.D. 790 compact on doctors orders. Had a IH 340U, nice old tractor
from late 50s. Without a FEL there are steps to get on/off but with the loader
you have to take them off. To get on you can pull yourself up but to get off you
have to jump..When I was younger I'd bang a knee/ankle an it heal in a couple
of days but as I get older it seemed to take a lot longer..The last time it took more
then three months. .The doctor said I better stop doing what I was doing or she'd
make me a appointment for knee replacement. I figured a new tractor was
cheaper then knee surgery...

Even now when there is a weather change the knees remind me of their past abuse...

Good luck my friend, I hope it's a quick recover...

I dealt with arthritis that got worse and worse for several years. Eventually the cartilege in my knees was completely gone. I had a total knee replacement on my right knee on October 4th. I was using a walker for three weeks after the operation (even walked the walker out to the ZTR mower one afternoon and mowed the grass). Now, after 2 months my knee is 99% healed and I'm doing everything I want to do with it and no pain. Can't wait to have the left knee replaced in March!

Soundguy - you may or may not need a total replacement but even if you do, with a good Ortho Surgeon you'll be back to full steam in no time. Best of Luck.

Sorry to hear about your knee Chris. From all of your accounts, you must be a pretty active person and this must be a serious pain in your rear. Hope all works out for you /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

How in the heck did you rupture two discs cutting down the tree?

I want to know so I don't do whatever you did.

The tree (80 foot live oak hit by lightning) was too thick at the base for the Stihl 044 with 32" bar, so I started in up too high off the ground.

The Vee cut was about bellybutton high and then the real upper cut was about shoulder high. Holding onto the saw for about 3/4 of the way through the second cut for ten minutes (after about another ten minutes of cutting) suddenly two discs in my lower back blew out posterierly ,L5 and L3. Came from holding saw up too high and too far out in front of me with too much pressure on the lower back......felt like I'd been shot in the back with a broadhead arrow... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Moral of Story -> Be careful with your bones and joints, they are the only ones you've got! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Yes, and yes.

Shows up most on the farm.. The cows try to crowd you for feed, so now I'm having to carry a walking stick to 'make room'.. or I drive my yerf dog out. And anything farther than the barn is deffinately a drive in the yerf dog...
( yerf dog is a small CUV )....

I was gonna take an allis G tractor to a show this weekend... but just couldn't use the clutch.. so no go.. oh well..

I'm sorry to hear about your knee, Chris. Over the years I've messed up both of mine. One in a car wreck and one was dislocated.
Mine have been years ago, and I still avoid the stairs even today. My right knee feels like it has gravel in it.
Since I'm one of three left in the family without knee replacements, I'm doing all I can to postpone that.

Get better Soundguy.
