Keeping an eye on the blizzard today. Probably won't get the BX out until tomorrow. This video taken with the security camera.

This is weird weather we are having. You are in blizzard conditions and here in the South, we are having mid-spring conditions. It was 69F yesterday with low last night of 45F due to clear skies yesterday and this morning, the first we have had in a fortnight of cloudy, misty, foggy weather but fortunately no cold weather.

It would appear that the grader is fighting a loosing cause.

It looks like you are getting the worst of the storm. I was supposed to get 15-30cm from the same storm. Currently (about 10:30 Sat), have about 1cm blown into the driveway. Not bad since the the worst is supposed to be bewteen midnight and noon. May have to take the BX out tomorrow and plow the little bit blown in.

Oh boy . We haven't had a flake of snow here yet . I'm only 200 miles away and not even that far as the crow flies .

Here's an updated video. I installed a little wind sock yesterday to help with wind direction when I'm snow blowing. It blew off a while ago so went out and brought it in for repair.

Ouch!.. that looks cold, and that wind would cut you like a knife.

Good day to stay inside feed the furnace....brrrr.

Temp gauges showed just barely below freezing but I'll bet the wind chill is pretty low. I see that snow plow done a good job of what they normally do, throw a mound of snow and ice into your driveway so you cant get out without plowing out your drive.

That is the kind of wind I had outside when I made my cold-starting diesel video. That kind of wind is brutal combined with a snow storm like you have in the video because of drifting snow.

If I ever get caught up I might go north some winter just to experience a blizzard for myself. Those who have them make them sound interesting.

Looks like a June day on the Rock to me ;)

Worked out of Gander back in the 90's. I was working at the base, as a contractor. I remember one night, the base had stood down early, and most of the town was closed, as it was blowing pretty good. Sitting at a hotel would have just delayed my return home, and since I had a 4wd truck and winter driving experience, I just kept working late that day.

There was a good sized payloader that was working keeping the road open between the town and the airport - that was pretty much all it was doing was that one road. There was so much snow coming down, and blowing so hard that by the time the payloader was done pushing back the snow drifts on that short road, it had to go back to the airport (no more that 2km) and start again.

What I retained from being out there was that when folk from the Rock talk about a "flurry", plenty of other people would think "blizzard"...... so had to see this vid.

My Dad used to talk about needing to use a logging chain for a windsock in the Maritimes.... he wasn't totally joking....

Rgds, D.

Last year and so far this year haven't been much of anything. I bet the most snow we've gotten in one dumping is about 3" and I doubt there's an inch on the ground outside my house. Of course a few years back it was the same way when Valentine's day came and we got about 40" followed by St Patrick's day giving us another 30" or so. Just lots of ice this year.

Just cleaned the driveway. Had about 4" up against the door from the wind blowing it in. The little draft of wind blew it in. Always get little blown in by the door. Mostly drifts to be cleared, the open areas were all blown clear. And the bit at the end of the driveway from the plow.

Had to make sure that friends and family could get in, having a little party tonight.

Central Maine we are expecting rain on Monday through Tuesday. One storm dumped 14" and another 4 ". Rain and 1" snow storms have done the rest. 6-8" are still on the ground. My drive is slick ice with 1 inch of wet snow. It is melting tonight. I hope it freezes itself into the ice to provide a rougher surface. I thought about scraping it today but that would set the stage for an ice skating rink -especially with the rain on Monday.
- Saving on wood. I brought a bunch in for the week, save going out on the wet ice midweek.

That is a great video and a catchy tune. Your snow-blowing is impressive but I'm sure glad I don't have to do that anymore.
