Why don't you just ask what sealant they use?

John,
I got an e-mail back from Ronnie at Tractor Smart, he also talked to Kubota and found no problem to report from the manufacture and from the NH dealer. But, without me asking, he has offered to send me another block heater so I can look at both threads and see what works. How about that for service. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I just hope I do not have the same problem you did, /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifnow all I have to do now is to buy that 17 mm hex wrench. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifThanks for the info.

Could be that the original heater had damaged the threads???? Be interesting to see how Kubota deals with that problem if it turns out to be a damaged block...

I think I finally have stopped the leak around the block heater. I tried two different "off the shelf" thread compounds and two wraps of Teflon tape without success. I also tried to find the Loctite 567 mentioned above but none of the auto parts stores had it in stock. I finally called Loctite and talked with someone at their technical support center. He recommended Loctite 565 but said that 567 would also work. He also gave me a list of dealers that stock Loctite products in my area. I was able to find one nearby company that had 565 in stock. The only downside is that 565 thread sealant requires 24 hours to cure but it appears to have done the job; I suspect the 567 has the same cure time. It cost $17 for a 50 ml tube. I sure am glad that that project is behind me.

NY_YANKEE_FAN... If you haven't installed your block heater yet, I will be glad to send you my 17mm allen stub that you can use to remove the plug from your block. When you are finished with it, you could send it to another TBNer in need. I doubt it will cost more than a dollar to send through the mail and it is better buying one for a one-time use. I paid about $18 at Sears for the allen wrench. I cut a inch and a half off the end and inserted the allen stub in a standard 17 mm socket. It worked great! (see attached picture)

It was worth the wait. I was really getting frustrated with the whole process. Draining antifreeze from a BX2200 creates a real mess. I am going to try to find a petcock that will fit my rad.

If you find one that fits properly, pass along the manufacturer and part number for the rest of us. I had the dealer install the heater in the initial set up just so I wouldn't have to mess with it. Now and am especially happy that I did it this way....
