I usually keep the heat on 50 degrees for the dog. 42 is the lowest the thermostat goes and I only set it that low if it is really cold outside.
I should probably keep it a little warmer for the old girl. She is an excellent security system. She is a 75 pound fearless wiemeraner that is very protective of the place.

I have mine on the combination of a timer and a thermostat. If it's time, and if it's cold enough, then I'm greeted by a warm tractor. Otherwise, I suck it up and wait while baby drinks her coffee and warms up for me. The tractor is in an unheated barn, so the timer & thermostat combination is working great. I got a solid-state timer from Lowes that's rated down to -30F and has an internal battery to not lose time during power outages. A very nice timer indeed.
