Blocking off radiator?

So does my Ford Focus but mine is electrically operated. In the winter it's closed. Summer, open. My big truck has a 'Winterfront' that covers the grill in front of the radiator.

Using the Winter Front blocks air from blowing salt out of the Rad fins, leading to early rad failure.

I've haven't had any issue with that and my vehicles have either had winter covers or partial radiator blocks for many years.
My sander/plow trucks has always had the radiators covered. Tractors in winter have plastic on the hoods, even the turbo'ed ones.
