I adjusted the bypass down for the arena. Just 1 turn. It always worked great on the flat, fresh snow. I just am afraid if i over torque the pressures, the auger WONT stop if i hit a large rock or buried tree/root.
I really don't want to trash this blower.

probably 80% of my snow blowing is fresh snow. And it only takes 30 seconds to dial it up.

grsthegreat, glad you got the blower working properly. Love the videos too! Just a quick suggestion if it might help. I was wondering if once you finally get your adjustments where you are happy with them that you should somehow mark the bypass valve with a little dab of pain or something so that there is no guessing each time you dial in/dial out the pressure. Different color for fresh fallen dry snow vs hard concrete like snow/ice. Just a thought. Good job!!!!!!! Stanley[/quote]

Its just a screw with a lock nut. Im going to paint rings on the 2 settings i am going to use. I was amazed how much difference a turn of a screw can make.

First, its not my technique, I've put something like 800 hours on this blower using three different tractors in the last 5-10 years. I was clearing 14 properties, from commercial lots to mile long residential driveways. We get a lot of snow here usually (not this year!)

I've got the attack angle as steep as she goes, about 10 degree down bubble when working this stuff, the problems are many. First, the auger needs carbide teeth on it to cut more aggressively when working this stuff. Its just won't feed the snow to the fan once it glazes. I actually folded the heavy 4" angle iron body trying to force the auger to take a bite. It doesn't have the optional cutting edge, only a piece of 1/2" flat stock replacing the original bottom of the blower, with the edge wearing after all the hours (my 800 are only a drop in the bucket total) it makes a reverse ramp shape which is perfect for gravel driveways, terrible for cutting into hardpack. I have some high carbon grader blade to weld on it but I've got to straighten the frame first.

Its a good blower, mines blown lumber, picnic tables, water hoses, concrete block, many yards of crushed rock, a fiberglass speed boat, etc but it can't touch wet freezing roof unload. I too have used it to move my sisters frozen manure piles, horse poo's really fly!

If I get time I'll straighten it and add a cutting edge but for now I'm loving my newer blower, a 7 ft Normand with rotating side discharge drum. Downside it the cutting edge is aggressive at removing gravel driveways.

Hey bud..... Not to veer off thread and certainly not to demean your technique but you need to change the attack angle of the blower and it won't climb, in fact it will hunker down and dig in, why I run oversize plow shoes on mine.

Have I ever steered you wrong in all these years?????:)

I usually do a final pass at the end of the season after the thaw thru the horse corrals with the snow blower. its nice to blow 3 months accumulation of manure that was frozen in place 30+ feet over the fence to fertilize the grass on the other side of the fence.

I manually clean all 5 stalls at least 1 time a week fall, spring and summer. But in winter...it freezes to the ground.

To both of you I have to say that the blower makes a darn sight better manure spreader than the manure spreader does.

I get a nice brown arc of semi liquified shitte and I can 'blow' it anywhere I want to.

No cutting edge on the Lucknow and none needed. I thought about adding a length of High-Ten across the bottom fan sheet, but never did.

The bottom angle of the 4" that forms the bottom of the blower/frame of the blower has worn away twice in the life of this blower, this will be the third that has been fitted, and I don't blow any asphalt surfaces. I believe the blower is pushing at least 5000 running hours now so really not bad, 30 years old.

The fan housing needs relined again too, its paper thin on one side.

Snow is abrasive. It has dirt in it even if it appears 'clean'.

I don't believe I could get 5000 hours on a blower in my lifetime. I only need it once or twice every winter.... from the looks of things, not this winter at all.

grs, glad you got the blower working the way it should. I also wasn't going to say anything but after watching half the video it appeared to me that something was wrong with the setup. Glad it was something simple, sometimes we get lucky. I've been considering the front mount option too and have been looking for a deal for awhile. My plan is to buy a tractor with one on it already, remove the blower setup and then resell the tractor. Sometimes blower setups go cheap at auction in the summer.
PS. Lucknow (Helm) Welding is about 7 miles from my house, 1 of the owners lives on our road. I get to see some of the neat stuff they fab up. A bunch of my neighbours work there. Horst (HLA) is about 50 miles from me. We have alot of Amish welding shops closeby.
