I've been to at least 6-8 Blue Angel airshows...I've NEVER seen one where ANY of them were that low.

AMAZING!

I shut the door and turned out the lights when NAS Alameda closed... bay area was glad to see the Military go and had big plans for all the closed bases. Myth Busters has ruined Alameda runways. Now the Bay area likes to see Fleet Week.

Mark,

I was based at NAS Alameda from '71 to '74. VAQ-130 and then 135 until 135 transferred up to Whidbey. Bay area was a great place to be a bachelor but in those years it wasn't great being in the military so close to Cal Berkley.

It's kind of a comment on the theory of BRAC that the only apparent use it's getting since it closed is filming Mythbusters. Kind of neat watching that program and seeing the hangars where I was once based, though.

Take-off toward the Bay Bridge was a hoot but low-viz landings up the estuary were - well for a young bachelor who didn't know any better - a hoot too.

Alameda NAS was planned to revitalize/rebuild, but it does not look like a whole lot has happened.

CV-12, USS Hornet is over there though; that is really cool. It's a museum now. We've(son and I) have been there a few times, mostly with Cub Scout and Boy Scout trips for thier Live-aboard/over-nite program. Last trip, he earned his Aviation merit badge; got to pre-flight a F-14 as part of that. In April I'm taking about 40 boys and parents for another trip there. My son signed up for the Radio merit badge program that day.

Welcome to the USS HORNET MUSEUM

Unfortunately, the lack of rebuilding at the old NAS, has also led to much less than expected tourism to the USS-Hornet.
