Bluegrass, Finger Lickin' Good! The Top 10 Best?

Yes, Charles was in Hot Rize; he was a great flattop player. Slade was also a good bassist.

I very much enjoyed Hot Rize, but liked thier alter-ego "Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers" just as much; they played great western music. They really goofed around when they did it, but they were serious about the music.

There are a few musicians that I really miss. A couple I have seen, a few I missed. Foremost on my list is Stevie Ray Vaughan. Charles Sawtell is second. Patsy Cline is 3rd. I saw Stevie Ray in Sacramento, saw Hot Rize with Charles too. Patsy was lost when I was just a baby.

Was'nt Hot Rize the group that Charles Sawtelle played with before his illness/subsequent death?

Robert, I've been dropping in on this thread and "listening" to you guys talk about different bands and music and such and thought of some of my favorites of the Western Genre. I'm a fan of the Western music that country has left behind. Below is some of the greats that are still around. Don Edwards, Dave Stamey, Ian Tyson, R.W. Hampton, Michael Martin Murphy (yes, he still sings Wildfire) & Red Steagall just to name a few.

I love this kind of music. Unfortunately, we do not have anything like this, or other "classic country" on the airwaves around here. A couple times in recent years, there have been attempts to get a classic country radio station going in Sacramento, but the market segment did not support it(read $$$).

KVMR in Grass Valley plays some great country and bluegrass shows.

Fortunately, there are still artist like these around. Just have to look for them, since they are outside the "mainstream".

I know what you mean. Not any around here either. Kind of like what's at the movies, it's whatever makes the $$$. We're a dying breed I'm afraid. I have been to some "gatherings" where things look a little promising in our future generations though. Another I thought of was a fella not so known and that's Brenn Hill. Below is a link to one of his songs. A lot of his are original and written about things that happen in his part of the ranching world. Sorry, didn't mean to pull this too far away from Bluegrass (one of my favorites as well) but both genre's are not so known nowadays.

That is correct. We saw them (Hot Rize) in person while he was still living at the Bluegrass Festival in Owensboro, Ky. back when the IBMA was headquartered there (mid to late eighties). Ken Sweet
