Bobcat 773 no fuel

The 773 stopped while mowing. It acted like it ran out of fuel but the gauge read 1/2 full. I put in 5 gallons and the fuel spilled out the fill. So no, it did not run out of fuel... You tube suggests the problem is a broken pick up tube in the tank. That's where I will be concentrating my efforts. Problem is the machine is broke down in the worst possible place to repair. ( Murphy's law)
That was yesterday and I woke up thinking if the pickup tube is broken off and the fuel is now at the top of the filler neck. The elbow into the tank should be in fuel ?
I'm going to go down today and try bleeding it and see it will run long enough to get it back to the shop.

My pick up tube was filled with particles clogging it up, as the pick up tube screen had fallen off.

Just fyi if the tube/elbow all looks ok, give it all a pull out and look over. Besta luck!

Thanks for your reply and the heads up. I ordered an new pick up kit ($25) on Amazon which includes the elbow, gromet, tube, and filter.
Going down to see if my theory is correct about it running off of the fuel in the fill tube above the tank. At least long enough to get back to the barn

Just letting everybody know filling to the top of the fill neck allowed me to prime and run long enough to get back across the creek, across the field, and raise the arms for easier access up at the barn where the tools are

Sure thing, get your cushion out, you’ll be on your belly in the backwoods of the 773 bowels enjoying the tedious surgery! Keep your magnetic telescoping tool handy for the tool dropsies.

The pickup tube on my 763 broke years ago and it was a pain to get out from the age hardened grommet. Got the kit also and replaced it all, then my son replaced all the fuel lines which were starting to deteriorate.

It was a rotted pickup tube.There is a metal fitting that goes into the tank with a hose slipped onto it. The tube had rotted away with only a few traces of it present on the metal elbow once I got it out.
THis is what I wanted to find when I pulled the fitting. Letting me know I was on the right track.
The parts (kit with elbow, gromet, and tube with a pick up filter) was only $20 on Amazon. The first delivery failed (?)and I reordered and waited another 2 days for it to arrive.
Now, putting this thing in there was no piece of cake. Access is on your belly reaching into the bowels of the machine lol. Once in, getting the hose on it and clamped down was a struggle... being left handed would be an advantage.
It's in, no leaks. She is fixed.
