I have a 98 or 99 bobcat 863. While working today it began to stall out on me. If I stopped moving and allowed the engine to recover it would go back to full throttle...eventually. A couple of times I just let it sit for 10-20 minutes then it would crank and run for a while before doing it again. I know it needs an air filter and a fuel filter probably wouldn't hurt but does anyone else have any other ideas on what could be wrong? Thank you for your suggestions in advance.

Your filters are more than likely the problem.

I've replaced my filters and still no luck. A buddy of mine said he had to replace the pick up tube in the fuel tank once when his skid was doing the same thing. It makes sense because I'm not leaking anywhere and that would be an easy way for the line to suck air once the level drops down. From what I've read online it seems a lot of folks have had the same problem.

Yep, fuel screen and tubing in tank. Those 863's are a bear to get to the fuel pick-up best I remember it's right under the drive pumps, you'll have 2 hoses to the tank 1 is pick-up, 1 is return be sure to pull the right one. Luck to you

You might try disconnecting the supply line from the tank at the fuel filter and blowing through it back toward the tank. Blow first with your mouth to see if it is clogged. If it feels restricted then used compressed air. I routinely blow mine out when I change the filters.

For a quick check if it is an air leak / cracked tube, maybe fill it all the way to the top with Fuel, and see if it straightens out.

If it does, just run it till it starts acting bad again, and you should be back to the fuel level you are at now.

The fuel screen has a 1 way check built in you wont be able to blow back thru it, if compressed air is used it will blow the tube, screen and all off the fitting that exits the tank.

I pulled the pick up tube out of the tank and discovered that it was in good shape...no cracks in it or anything. It wasn't bad to get out but putting it back in was a little challenging to say the least. I ended up putting a new fuel filter on and everything has worked fine ever since. Wish I had done that before I went through all that other trouble but I guess that's what learning is all about.

Mowermoney: DO NOT blow back toward the tank with compressed air. The small filter in the tank is also a check valve and it will blow the check valve off into the tank. If you suspect it is clogged there is only one thing you can do. Remove the right rear wheel, the cover (I think it has 3 or 4 bolts), and remove the line & filter, make a trip to Bobcat and get a new filter, grommet, and hose. This is about a 3 hour job, (IF YOU HAVE GOOD LUCK). Make sure to get the grommet back in all the way. It is not easy. Good Luck
