Boeing 787 Test Flight

One of our Scout Trop leaders was AF reserve; flew C5 and C17. regular job was airline pilot. He got a bunch of Scouts on a a couple training flights over the years(Tons of hoops to jump thru!). I went on one. It is really impressive what a C-17 can do. And they took it easy on the flight because of us civilians. Talking to him, it was impressive the stuff they could do. He did a lot of flights in/out of Baghdad, dropping in in a hurry, minimal time on the ground as they were target, and back up again. It was pretty amazing the stories of pushing those C17's much harder than you would see on civilian side.

Nothing beats going into and out of Baghdad International on C17s and C130s. The real fun was when the C130s would drop flares and do evasive manuevers....you could see the ground from the rear criew chief windows, and we were above the flares flying sideways!.....loved those old birds. Aircraft in combat do things you never see here or would imagine!

You are right about combat flights.....they can do some interesting stuff. C130s.....C141s and C5s......did some crazy things in Viet Nam. The C5 was one big plane......can't believe how much stuff got loaded in there. One landing.....we blew something like 8 tires......I think that was in Altus OK.????

I'm pretty sure that's Moses Lake, WA. Boeing has used that location for as long as I can remember. When I flew quarterly training events out of McChord AFB, I preferred to get out of Sea-Tac's airspace and hop over the Cascade Mountains to "Moses Hole". There was no radar but the controllers were quite competent. You'd be on final to the north on an NDB approach and a JAL 747 would be beak to beak with you setting up an opposite direction circle. The best part of the location was the Japanese restaurant JAL built into a hanger. Best fried rice I've ever had out of Japan.
