Bolt holes 4320

Hello,

I have a 2008 4320 and was wondering what the threaded holes are for on the right side of the engine? They are covered with plastic caps. Also does anyone know what size the bolts would be to fit them?

You know... sometimes you look at things and it just never occurs to you to ask - what, why?

This, seems to me, to be one of those situations. Nonetheless, every tractor engine I have ever looked at has those open, tapped bolt holes.

And I have always just assumed that they were used to secure and move the engine through the stages of building the engine and finally the tractor during the manufacturing process.

Once the crankshaft, camshaft, bearings, pumps, etc. are installed into the open block and the engine is finally bolted into the tractor frame; the bolt holes are no longer needed or used for anything else.

Those engines are use in various pieces of industrial equipment like generators, air compressors, light towers, trenchers, ect. Those holes could be for just about anything.

Good point, Kenny. I believe that Deere uses the 4024T engine in their Skid Steers, too. Might be mounted cross-ways in the chassis.

Yup... that's right! But.... the 313-315-317-318D-320-320D all have the 4024T engine. (Maybe I should have said; at one time - USED.)

Might be used in marine applications as well. Deere engines (with appropriate modifications) are frequently used to power boats from 30' to over 100 feet OAL. There's even a Deere magazine, dedicated to marine applications, that comes out bi-monthly or quarterly. Mostly pleasure boats, but some are smaller work boats.
